A rare Melanistic Great Blue Heron has been sighted in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. The bird has been frequenting the drainage ditches in a Slidell neighborhood along the Pearl. Unfortunately, the ditches are currently filled with trash. Pearl Riverkeeper Board member Jessica Gauley is organizing a cleanup event on Jan 10, beginning at 10 am, meeting at the Davis Landing Boat Ramp in Slidell. Trash bags will be provided. Bring trash grabbers and gloves if you have them. Let’s clean up our Pearl River drainage habitat!

Perfect day for a hike in Gorges State Park today. Start at the Visitors Center and traverse the trail through Gorges State Park and into Pisgah National Forest. Gorges State Park is located along the Blue Ridge Escarpment, an area where 5 streams carry water to the ocean from the divide between the TN Valley drainage and the Atlantic drainage, creating thousands of acres of temperate rainforest. 🌳🌲💦💧
