Decorative repair is often invisible when done well — and that is exactly the point.

At the end of renovations, furniture moves, impacts, scratches, and unexpected damage can happen on wood, decorative finishes, walls, panels, or custom surfaces. My work often consists of carefully rebuilding what was damaged so the repair disappears back into the original material.

This process involved:
• color matching
• recreating wood grain and tonal movement
• camouflage of the damaged areas
• layered detailing and texture work
• meticulous blending into the surrounding finish

The goal is not simply to “cover” damage, but to restore visual continuity so the eye no longer stops at the repair.

These types of specialty touch-ups require patience, observation, and an understanding of color, sheen, texture, and material behavior.

Before & After restoration of The Lady Sleeps mural by Charles Graham (1948) at the legendary Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem 🎷

This project focused on conservation, repair, tonal reintegration, and bringing back depth and balance to the original mural while respecting its history and character.

The figure is believed to represent Billie Holiday, shown here beside Nat Singerman’s iconic photograph “The Lady in Red.”

Minton’s Playhouse, birthplace of bebop, remains one of Harlem’s most important cultural spaces. It was truly meaningful to contribute to preserving a piece of its artistic legacy.

Some pics made over time of the people who make New York City.
Keep it interesting and humane, make it affordable again, somewhere, indeed.
