Some couples come into my life for a single season, and some I'm lucky enough to follow through many.

I first photographed M + Z for their engagement. Then came their wedding, the babies, and all the beautiful life in between. Year after year, season after season, I've watched their story grow right alongside them.

It's my favorite part of this work. Not just documenting where you are now, but getting to look back at everywhere we have been.

Ohana mean family. The people we're born to, the people we choose, and the people who become ours along the way. Yesterday family came from near and far to gather in the Colorado mountains and celebrate two families now one, one big happy ohana.

A Colorado casual morningfilled with good people, big love, and plenty of line dancing. The kind of celebration that reminds you the best part of love is often all the people it brings together.

Life doesn't begin on a wedding day. It begins in all the days that came before it. In the joy and the hard seasons, the plans that worked out and the ones that changed completely. In choosing each other again and again through every version of the life you are building.

And I think thats the beauty of it. By the time you promise forever, you already know what it means to walk through life side by side.

If these walls could talk, they'd tell stories older than most of us. Of a little mountain town built two miles high. Of trains and travelers, winters and summers, and years gone by. Of all the life that passed through this old train depot before it became FREIGHT and a place to say 'I do".

There's something really special about starting a brand new story together in a place so deeply rooted in the past. where history and new beginnings meet, high in the Colorado mountains.

Distractions disappear. The mountains get moodier. The movement gets louder. All the small pieces you might have missed become the story.

Yin to her yang. Opposites in all the ways that make life interesting, and somehow, they just make sense.

This weekend at Flying Dog Ranch Retreat brought their people together from Oklahoma, Colorado, and everywhere in between to celebrate exactly that.

Disco balls + geodes + a flower boy +a cooler that said 'cheers to the brides'. A little sparkle, a little earth, a whole lot that was truly and uniquely them.

A toast to the first hints of gold.

A little PSA for anyone planning around Colorado fall colors this year: the aspens are making their own plans. Color has already been spotted here and there, and the predictions are kind of all over the place.

Aspen season has never been an exact science. Shorter days get things started, but elevation, moisture, drought, warm days, cool nights, frost, wind and even an early snow can change when a grove turns and how long those leaves actually hang on.

We can plan for the historically right window, but Mother Nature doesn’t take reservations. And this year especially, I wouldn’t put too much faith in a “peak color” date on a calendar.

He's a big game hunter, a man of many interests and someone who knows his way around the wild. She's a fiercely independent adventurer who, somehow, has still managed to teach him a thing or two.

Yesterday, in the place they now call home, with friends and family from near and far...they got married.

I think that when someone is meant to be in your life, somehow, life will keep putting them in your path.

Mark and Carolyn met at work. Then they matched online. And somewhere along the way, two paths became one.

A day steeped in tradition, surrounded by family, and overflowing with love and joy.

I love these two dearly, and I am so grateful they trusted me with this story. I cannot wait to see where this life takes them together.
