| Dust To Dust: Year 5 |

Less than two short months until my favorite weekend of the year. The best people doing the coolest things in one of the most out-of-this-world places. And it’s our fifth time doing it! Which is for sure bound to be our absolute best!

For those that don’t know what we’re doing or are on the fence… It’s really quite simple. We gather in the desert (coordinates below), some people ride bikes, some people take photos and video, everyone has a good time. It’s completely free, no ticket, no admission. You come with what you need to make for a good time. Your new favorite memories, your new best friend, your greatest reminder of how beautiful and exciting life can be is all waiting for you.

So come find us in the wastelands!

This particular hike in Glacier is one of my favorites. It’s one of the most satisfying. The climb is a challenge, technical, steep, a scramble at times. The best part about rodeos is the motion of it all. The whole spectacle is a blur of dust, grit, and glory. Making it stand still in photographs has been one of my greatest joys and funnest challenges over the past couple of years.

There’s a split second in every ride where everything lines up. The horse, the rider, the dirt kicking up just right. Blink and it’s gone, already folded into the next eight seconds of chaos. Most of what happens out there never gets seen twice, not even by the people it happened to. That’s the part that keeps pulling me back with a camera.

I didn’t grow up around any of this. Came to it late, from somewhere far from a rodeo arena. But there’s something about chasing a moment that refuses to hold still that feels worth the chase, no matter where you started. Makes me wonder what’s moving too fast in your own life to notice.

Aside from existing to be marveled at, the mountains are here to help show you what you’re capable of. They want to be climbed, they want people to see them as challenges to be faced, they long for adventurous souls to stand atop their horns in victory. They encourage you to challenge limits instead of limit challenges.

I love climbing mountains because it gives me the chance to be an overcomer. I love capturing them in my art because of what they mean to me. They are the Goliaths of the natural world. They are the call that I love to answer.

Just as there is uniqueness in every fingerprint, no two mountains are the same. Each one has its own beauty, distinction, and awe-inspiring essence to their character and identity. Whether alone or a part of a pack, a wolf in the mountains is always in good company.

My favorite part about getting a different behind-the-scenes perspective of some rodeos is what happens before the rodeo. The preparation, the deep breaths, the focus, the steeling of nerves, the quips that cut the tension, the quiet moments of peace before madness ensues. It’s the nuanced part of the show that I’m loving the process of capturing. I also just admire these kids that throw themselves into the ring to chase those eight seconds.
