I heard we’re bringing back one image posts, and honestly, I’m here for it. On a wedding day, I’m always looking; I rarely take breaks except to eat, of course, but truly the photos that I have loved the most have been taken while taking a little stroll around when there’s nothing to be photographed in the moment. A pause to let the day breathe and be; intentionality has always been and will always be at the core of my business.

A flower in the sun, a cloud with the sun streaming through, a candid moment with a bride’s mom and her mom, or a vendor taking an extra second to make sure something is perfect. Moments that help to tell the story of your day. It’s the people that give my galleries purpose, and the details that make the story come to life.

Andrea and I met through an Instagram DM exchange. Her personality and joy came through so beautifully on social media that I knew she was someone I wanted to be friends with.

That’s one of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer, meeting someone in the same industry and instantly clicking like you’ve known each other forever.

Over the years, one of the things I’ve admired most about Andrea is the way she honors a wedding day. She never cracks under the pressure, she never loses sight of what matters, and she always, always sees the people around her.

This is exactly the kind of photographer you want by your side. Someone who genuinely cares about your experience, not just creating beautiful photos (which she absolutely does), but creating space for you to actually live your wedding day.

Watching her work has changed the way I photograph weddings. Before every first look, every private vow, every quiet moment, she tells her couples, “Take a moment. Take as long as you need. I’m here, but I’m not here. Just be present with each other.” And you can almost see the relief wash over them as they realize they don’t have to perform, they just get to be together.

Every single wedding we do, we laugh and tear up, dance, create, and work our hardest to give our couples the very best we have.

The team you hire on your wedding day matters. The way they view weddings matters even more. You want people who know when to pick up their camera and when to set it down. The people who understand that sometimes the most important thing they can give you isn’t another photo, it’s the freedom to fully experience one of the best days of your life.

Timeless, natural photography with an editorial feel. I’m all about classic, true to color imagery. I love making my clients feel beautiful and confident by guiding them through movements and posing that feel both natural but also unique to them. I don’t do the exact same poses in every session, because no two couples are exactly the same.

Just some thoughts that have been running through my mind. I get asked often how to get bookings and grow a business, I’m honestly just figuring it out myself but one thing I know is your business will not grow without consistency. You HAVE to show up for it, you have to post consistently, you have to give 100% as often as you can. Growth doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s sucking first and then every time you pick up a camera you get a little bit better.

A photographer messaged me the other day asking about second shooting, and it made me realize something: not many photographers talk about how to actually be a great second shooter.

After every wedding I second shoot, I write down what I learned, what I could’ve done better, and how I can better serve the lead photographer next time.

Looking back, I wish I could redo some of the weddings I second shot when I was first starting because I’ve grown so much over the years.

Here are three things that have made the biggest difference:

Ask questions. Before every wedding, I ask the lead photographer what they like, what they don’t like, and how they prefer to work. Do they want BTS of them working or just the couple? Do they like Dutch angles, intentional blur, or off-camera flash outdoors? The more I know beforehand, the better I can support their vision. I also make it a goal to deliver 40+ BTS videos throughout the day.

Support first, photograph second. Some of the most valuable things you can do have nothing to do with your camera. Grab their water, hold a fan, fluff the dress, run to their bag, carry gear. I’m constantly asking myself, “What can I do right now to make their day easier?”

Capture what they can’t. Some overlap is inevitable, but I never want my gallery to be filled with duplicates. I focus on different angles, guest reactions, candid moments, and details they may have missed. If they’re shooting landscape, I’ll switch to portrait.

Being a great second shooter isn’t just about taking beautiful photos, it’s about making the lead photographer’s job easier while helping them deliver the strongest gallery possible. Let me know if you would like a Part II!

Shoutout to these incredibly talented photographers featured in the BTS from these videos!

My favorite compliment is when someone who usually doesn’t enjoy having their photo taken says, “That was actually really fun.”

During your session, I’m constantly keeping the conversation going, asking about your story, how you met, what you love to do together, and all the little things that make your relationship yours. In between those conversations, I’m creating beautiful, intentional imagery that feel genuine.

There are no awkward silences and no moments where I’m scrolling through my phone trying to find the next pose. The work happens long before your session; I think through movements that feel natural. On a random Sunday afternoon, you’ll find me making my husband into a test subject to really understand how different poses and movements feel.

I also take the time to get to know you before we ever start shooting. I pay attention to your personalities and ask about things you might not enjoy, whether that’s lifts, running, or more movement-heavy prompts, so your experience feels comfortable from beginning to end.

This series is going to be long because, honestly, the journey is going to be long. I can’t wait to take you with me as a full time wedding photographer and a pre-med student’s wife. That feels wild to say! But I think sometimes life of a wedding photographer can be glamorized, or just not shown in all the in-between moments and real life moments.

I’ve been pursuing being a full-time wedding photographer for six years, to be exact, and we did it, officially this month! I’m celebrating that because building a business while helping others build theirs is a lot of hard work and late nights.

I remember the night Tyler told me he wanted to become a doctor, and I remember thinking to myself, yes, there’s nothing else I could see him doing but that. Then he told me he wanted to become a neurosurgeon, and while I felt a bit of fear over the fact that that means at least 10 more years of schooling and residencies, etc. God has been guiding us and preparing our relationship and my business for this kind of commitment.

I can’t wait to bring you along for the journey. I firmly believe that to do anything, you just need a bit of grit, a lot of consistency, and commitment to making something work.

So here we go, on the adventure of a lifetime!
