Change those batteries this weekend! It's much better than waking up at 3 AM trying to figure out which smoke detector is beeping and then realizing you ran out of batteries. It's easy to do and saves lives.

It's time to "fall back" tomorrow! When you set your clocks back one hour, be sure to change the batteries in your smoke alarm too.

Smoke alarms with non-replaceable 10-year batteries are designed to remain effective for up to 10 years. If the alarm chirps, warning that the battery is low, replace the entire smoke alarm right away.

Smoke alarms with any other type of battery need a new battery at least once a year. If that alarm chirps, warning the battery is low, replace the battery right away.

When replacing a battery, follow manufacturer’s list of batteries on the back of the alarm or manufacturer’s instructions. Manufacturer’s instructions are specific to the batteries (brand and model) that must be used. The smoke alarm may not work properly if a different kind of battery is used.

As 3:30pm approaches, the water on Barnegat Ave is getting deeper. It's made it from side to side in 4-5 of the usual places. This is rising water which means it's salty and bad for your car.

Please stay in, but if you have to go out, stick to Central and the Boulevard. There's still an hour to high tide.

Causeway is still passable.
