It’s September and still hot here in Arizona so my mind turns to the fall landscapes of beautiful Spearfish Canyon. When we lived there it was my favorite time of year and fortunately I took a lot of photos at the time. One of my favorite stops was the little pond and small falls at the top of the Canyon. I wasn’t sure if I could quite capture the reflection and the colors so I tried a smaller piece yesterday. This little 8x6 inch was a result.

A newly completed piece for our fall show here at the Casa Grande Airport. To follow the theme of All Things Aeronautical” I added several girls to a foggy beach scene flying a colorful kite. Hope you enjoy this whimsical piece. The original will be for sale at the airport or later in the winter.

Just completed and ready for show. This is a piece I created for the Fall exhibit at the CG Airport. The theme of the show is “All Things Aeronautical” so I put together several of my photos from last winter here in Casa Grande. There are usually several ballon flights a day here in the winter. One day as I drove south toward Arizona City, two flew over Casa Grande Mountain. A few days earlier on one of my morning walks I captured the brilliant sunrise over the SW corner of CG Mountain. I thought it would be a great background to my ballon shot.

This piece will be for sale at the show in September and of course prints are available as well. The original is 10x8” and is matted and framed. Prints may be ordered on my website. I will drop that link in a separate post.

Thanks every one for your continued support.

What I’ve been up to the last couple of weeks. Besides trying to stay cool in the Arizona heat I tackled a board of 6 small pieces. Each block is 3x4 inches which makes for a challenge. I’m working on blending styles, mood creation and thought this would be a good practice. I’ll be diving into some bigger pastel work the next few weeks as I get ready for a new art show at the Casa Grande Airport in September. Thanks everyone for checking out my art.

My third and final color pencil drawing from vacation. The wet and varied fur was a good challenge. This is 6x8 inches but took me about 8-9 hours. I will be posting these on my website for prints and products in the next few days. Thanks always for your interest in my art work.

Even on vacation I can’t help but sketch or paint. This week in Oklahoma with the grandkids I did this small color pencil sketch of couple of juvenile Green Hurons.

I’m grateful to my friend Tam Ryan for letting me use her photo as a reference. If you like birds, she has taken many in Gilbert, Arizona and is also an award winning photographer for several years now with the Arizona Game and Fish calendar as well as others.

These guys are 5x7 on mixed media gray paper. It was fun capturing their personalities. Thanks again Tam. https://www.facebook.com/share/1BQJhfboTM/?mibextid=wwXIfr

One last post before I leave for six weeks. Thinking of cooler places and decided to do this little waterfall from my days in Spearfish, SD. A small creek flows over a series of rock falls in the summer. This is 5x7 inches on sanded paper in soft pastel.

With hotter weather setting on here in Arizona I’m spending more time in my studio working on small art projects. Two more I completed last week to challenge myself in different subject matter. The first “Bee on cactus flower” is a 6 x 6 inch square. The second “Sunset on the Mexican coast” is 6x8. I’m having fun working smaller as I can complete a piece in much less time and then move on.

Thanks everyone of you who comment on my posts. I appreciate your support.

When the temperature heads to 100 what to do? Paint snow! My latest piece is of the blue hour on a snowy morning on the prairie. Part of my “small” collection at 8x6 inches in soft pastels.
