The pieces that didn't fit the main story. πŸ”οΈπŸ“· Looking back through the full gallery from the March trip to Estes Park. Sometimes the "in-between" moments are just as good as the hero shots. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms who inspired our love for the great outdoors! Which slide is your favorite? πŸ”οΈπŸŒ²βœ¨

Sometimes the mountains just put on a show. πŸ”οΈπŸ”₯ This blue hour light lasted all of 5 minutes before the sun dropped behind the Continental Divide. Nature does not rush, but it sure is powerful. πŸŒ…βœ¨πŸ™

The best way to spend a weekend. πŸš—πŸ’¨ RMNP is still shaking off winter, but the quiet on the trails is worth the cold. It is that rare time of year where you can see the seasons changing in a single hike. Swipe to see the scale from the top! Check out my profile for more from this Rocky Mountain series and save this for your next Colorado road trip. πŸ—ΊοΈπŸ”οΈπŸ₯Ύ

Earth Day in the Rockies. πŸŒŽπŸ”οΈ There is nothing like the quiet of a mountain meadow to remind you why we protect these places. Grateful for the fresh air and the views that never get old. Happy Earth Day everyone! πŸŒ²βœ¨πŸ™

Trading the 2,000 foot drops of the canyon for the 14,000 foot peaks of the Rockies. πŸ”οΈ March in Estes Park is a season of transition with melting snow in the meadows and deep winter still clinging to the high peaks. It is good to be back in the thin air! Which do you prefer: the deep canyons or the big mountains? πŸ”οΈπŸŒ²βœ¨

When the canyon finally goes to sleep. Blue hour hits differently at 8,000 feet. The colors shift from harsh greys to these deep purples and oranges. It is the best time to just put the camera down and breathe. Would you Stay for the stars?

Meet the Watchman of the canyon. There is something about a single spire standing against a sheer wall that makes you realize how small we really are. This was shot at 85mm to make the spire feel like it is looming over the river. Rate this view from 1 to 10.

Swipe for a sense of scale and maybe a little vertigo. These walls drop 2,000 feet straight down. I used the 85mm to compress the rock face textures in slide 3. These rock faces are made of Precambrian basement rock that is nearly 2 billion years old some of the oldest exposed rock on the planet. Save this for your next Colorado road trip!

33 minutes of sunlight. That is all some parts of this canyon get per day. Moving from the open horizons of the Sand Dunes to the sheer verticality of the Black Canyon was a massive shift in perspective. Standing on this rim, you realize the river isn’t just water it’s a sculptor that’s been working for two billion years. Which do you prefer: the open desert or the deep canyons?
