Somewhere between photographing canals and avoiding bicycles, I became fascinated by windows.

Rows of them.

Columns of them.

Endless repetitions marching down the street.

Most people experience a city at eye level.

Photographers spend a surprising amount of time looking at things differently. We look down, look all around, even look up.

Amsterdam rewards the effort.

Tilt your head back and the narrow canal houses seem to stretch endlessly into the sky, transforming architecture into a study of lines, geometry, and perspective.

Sometimes a photograph isn't about finding a new subject.

It's about finding a new way to look at one that's been there all along.

Three Doors and a Lot of Windows.

Most normal tourists probably take photos of canals.

I, on the other hand, became completely fascinated by a building that appears to be mostly composed of windows.

Amsterdam is a dangerous place for a photographer. Every ten feet there's another doorway, another shadow, another detail demanding attention.

Progress toward reaching my destination: questionable.

Progress toward filling memory cards: excellent.

A sure sign I've been somewhere long enough:

I've stopped photographing the landmarks and started photographing the traffic cones.

(For the record, Gozo's cones are red, stripe-free, and apparently determined to challenge everything I thought I knew about traffic cone design.)

Somewhere behind the cone is a photograph about change, renovation, and the way old and new coexist here.

But let's be honest.

We're all looking at the traffic cone.

Farewell, David Hockney.

Many artists spend their lives painting things. Hockney spent his life teaching us how to see.

From California swimming pools to Yorkshire landscapes, from Polaroids to iPads, he never stopped exploring light, color, space, and perception. His work reminded us that the ordinary world becomes extraordinary when we truly pay attention.

The swimming pools will always be iconic, but his larger gift was showing generations of artists that curiosity is a creative force all its own.

Thank you for the color, the experimentation, and the joy.

Rest in peace.

A few minutes from the Bored Peach Club is this small side street.

I've walked past it more times than I can count, but the combination of the pale green wall, the limestone buildings, and the soft afternoon light finally stopped me in my tracks.

One of the gifts of a residency is having enough time to notice places that might otherwise become part of the background.

Three friends.

A canal.

A warm afternoon.

The sort of scene that probably happens every day and is forgotten by evening.

But sometimes those ordinary moments tell you more about a place than any famous landmark ever could.

The trip to Gozo began with three suitcases, one ferry, and a photographer who couldn't make it to the upper deck because somebody had to keep an eye on the luggage.

The good news: the view was still spectacular.

The better news: none of the suitcases rolled into the Mediterranean.

Small victories count.

I was told the coffee in Malta wasn't very special.

After arriving in Gozo and settling into my residency, I wandered down to the square in Xagฤงra and ordered an iced coffee at 73 in the Square.

I was expecting coffee with ice.

What arrived was coffee, dessert, and what appears to be an entire cloud.

Either somebody was mistaken, or somebody has been keeping secrets.

The truth is out there. And apparently it's served in a glass in Gozo.

We all carry private cathedrals within us.

Places built from memory, belief, doubt, imagination, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are.

"Cathedral of My Inner Psyche" grew from that idea. Layers of architecture and color come together to create a space that doesn't exist in the physical world, yet somehow feels familiar. Less a portrait of a building than a portrait of an inner landscape.

For those interested in collecting, my Father's Day Sale is currently running with code DAD2026.
