The IAEA’s latest inspection confirmed that the New Safe Confinement at Chernobyl, the giant steel structure built in 2016 to seal reactor 4, no longer performs its full containment functions after a February drone strike tore open part of the outer shell and caused a fire. Radiation levels outside the site remain stable, but hundreds of breaches now compromise the airtight barrier that was designed to trap radioactive dust and gases. Experts say the main structure is still sound yet warn that extensive repairs are urgently needed to restore long term safety. What do you think should be done first?

🚨 UK Drone Owners — Heads Up! 🚨

Just in time for the new year, major drone rule changes are landing in the UK from 1 January 2026! 🇬🇧 If you (or someone you know) picked up a drone over the holidays — even a lightweight one — listen up.

📜 What’s new? 🔹 If your drone or model aircraft weighs 100g or more, you’ll now need to pass an online theory test to get your Flyer ID before you fly.
🔹 If your drone has a camera, you’ll also need an Operator ID.
🔹 Flying without the right IDs could land you a fine of up to £2,500! 😬
🔹 Kids under 18 have specific rules, but parents/guardians can help them get ready.

🎄 Thousands of drones were likely unwrapped this Christmas — so don’t let a lack of preparation turn a fun gift into a hefty fine!

👉 The Flyer ID test is free and available online, and it’s worth reviewing the updated rules before taking to the skies.

🚁 Looking Ahead: DJI, Policy, and the Future of Drone Innovation 🌟

There’s been a lot of buzz around DJI and how U.S. policymakers are engaging with the company’s role in commercial and government drone use — including recent requests for transparency from major firms that use DJI technology in sensitive contracts.
Reuters

But here’s the part we’re excited about as we head into the new year: this conversation shows how significant drones have become to critical industries, infrastructure, and innovation. Rather than being sidelined, drones — including DJI’s platforms — are now at the center of policy discussions because they’re too mission-critical to ignore. That’s a sign of the technology’s growing importance across:

📍 public safety and emergency response
📍 construction and infrastructure documentation
📍 environmental monitoring and research
📍 agriculture, logistics, and surveying

Challenges like regulatory scrutiny and security reviews are part of the maturation process for any transformative technology. What makes this moment hopeful is that it’s prompting clearer guidelines, stronger standards, and more responsible use frameworks moving forward — not a rejection of drone tech itself.

Here’s to an exciting 2026 for drones — grounded in safety, opportunity, and progress. 🚀
