One thing I’ll never stop investing in is becoming a better photographer.

Earlier this year, I spent a few days in Charleston attending The Hybrid Collective, my very first work conference, which was multi-day and attended a shoot hosted by Brittany Boote and her incredible team Jessi Rutherford Patrick Properties Events.

It was such a refreshing opportunity to connect with other photographers throughout the conference, learn from talented creatives, and leave inspired.

I had the opportunity to lean into my more editorial approach to creating—something I’ve found myself increasingly drawn to alongside the candid, documentary storytelling that has always been at the heart of my work.

I love preserving genuine moments, but I also appreciate the artistry of slowing down and creating intentional imagery.
I walked away creatively recharged, with new friends and a renewed excitement for what’s ahead.

I think we’ve spent so many years photographing weddings for the bride that we’ve sometimes forgotten the groom has a story, too.

A story unfolding at the exact same time.

One where he’s buttoning up his tux while his brother is standing right behind him. Where lifelong friends are shotgunning beers on the balcony, making fun of each other’s golf swings, and turning any pre-ceremony nerves into laughter.

Where no one’s worried about the camera because they’re too busy living the moment.

Not just portraits.

A story.

His people.
His personality.
The friendships that helped shape him.
The brother who looks enough like him to make everyone do a double take.
The anticipation before he sees his person.

And later…

The guy who somehow ends up with his shirt over his head on the dance floor because the music got that good…and the moments everyone will laugh about for years.

These moments deserve more than five rushed minutes in a timeline.

Because one day, these won’t just be photos of him in a tux… They’ll be reminders of who stood beside him on an important day

…and who was still beside him when the dance floor opened.

Every wedding has two stories unfolding, and I plan on telling both.

Why should your wedding day be the only day you wear your dress?

One of the most underrated parts of the wedding experience is a bridal session.

Here’s why.

On your wedding day, your dress gets one chance. You’re moving from one thing to the next, hugging people, checking the timeline, and trying to soak in every moment. It’s incredible... but it also goes by so fast.

A bridal session gives you the chance to slow down. You get to learn how your dress moves, how to sit, walk, twirl, and simply feel comfortable in it before the wedding day arrives.

There are no guests wondering where you are. No one trying to sneak an early peek. Just a chance to be fully present, take it all in, and enjoy wearing your dress without feeling pulled in a dozen different directions.

It’s also the perfect opportunity to create somewhere you may not have access to on your wedding day. Maybe that’s another part of your venue that doesn’t fit into the schedule, or a completely different location that’s meaningful to you and wouldn’t otherwise make sense to visit on the wedding day.

One of the biggest benefits? Many of your portraits are already finished. That means when your wedding morning arrives, there’s less pressure, more breathing room, and more time to simply enjoy being with the people you love.

Your wedding day doesn’t have to be the only day your dress gets to be part of your story.

A little life lately.

The first half of 2026 has looked a lot different than I imagined. Slower in some ways, fuller in others.

There have been weddings (and some along fellow creatives) and weekend getaways. Home renovations. New places and familiar ones. Long drives, beach sunsets, dinners with friends, overdue time with family, and countless moments that reminded me to put the camera down and simply be present.

This winter and spring moved at a somewhat slower, steadier pace than usual, and for that I’ve become grateful. There was some loss in our family, which made the extra time together feel even more meaningful. More than anything, this season has reminded me how much I value connection—the people we love, the memories we share, and the moments that often pass by too quickly.

Ironically, those moments have also reminded me why I love photography so much.

Not because of the perfectly curated highlights, but because of the things in between.

The way someone reaches for your hand.
The laugh that catches you off guard.
The people who make a place feel like home, or home is wherever they’re with you.

The moments that might seem ordinary now, but won’t feel ordinary years from now.
