September is Save Your Photos Month, a free global event all about organizing, digitizing, and safeguarding our memories! As a member of The Photo Managers, this month means SO much to me! ❤️

Saving photos is important, but saving what you remember about them is too!

I was reminded of this recently when I came across an old photo of Brennen when he was on the Clemson Men's Golf Team from 2000–2001. ⛳️ At first glance, it's just a team photo. But look a little closer and you'll see Brennen in the back, awkwardly leaning over with his leg propped up on a stone wall right behind Coach Larry Penley. 😂

Y'all...when I first saw this photo, I had NO idea there was a whole story behind that pose!

Apparently, the photographer wanted Brennen to do something different and told him to put his leg on the wall. Being as tall as he is, Brennen was used to being sent to the back...but THIS pose stuck with him because it felt so awkward next to all the other guys. We giggled so much when he told me! 😆Suddenly, I wasn't just looking at an old team photo anymore. I knew what made it memorable!

And THIS is why preserving the photo is only part of the job. 🫶 We can scan it, organize it, and safely store it digitally, but without the story, part of the memory can still disappear!

Y'all...my Fleurish presentation was such a FUN experience! ✨

I loved getting to talk all things photo organization and preservation with my Kappa sisters! We had 70+ sisters join in LIVE from across the U.S. and Canada and SO many great questions! 💙

The word “overwhelming” came up again and again when everyone described their photo collections. ❤️ And I get it! When you have SO many photos, where do you even begin? That's exactly why I loved getting to have this conversation! Whether you have boxes of loose photographs, old albums waiting for attention, or years of memories that need a little organization, I hope you walked away with a little more knowledge, a little more confidence, and a better idea of what to do next! 🫶

I've been looking forward to this for weeks! 💙

Tomorrow, I'll be speaking at Kappa Kappa Gamma's Fleurish Alumna Event Series, teaching one of my favorite topics: how to organize and preserve family photographs for future generations.

The prep has been underway for months...and my office is proof. 😂 Shoeboxes, photo albums, index cards, preservation supplies, and presentation notes are everywhere!

I'll even be demonstrating how to safely remove photos from old albums using my own baby book (yes, palette knife and all!), plus digging through my Clemson Kappa photos for a few fun throwbacks. 👀

Can we talk about school reading lists for a second?! 📚✨Because I think I may have found my new favorite back-to-school system...and I am WAY too excited not to share it!! 🙌

When Miller got his summer reading list this year, I thought, “There has to be a better way to help him find books he’ll actually read and love.” I wanted to create a system we could use all school year long that would take some of the guesswork out of choosing books and make future assignments easier for both of us!

That’s when I turned to Claude AI! I copied his reading list into Claude and asked which titles Miller would love based on his favorite things and past reading history: golf ⛳, WWII history 📖, historical fiction, adventure 🌎...you get the idea!

Y'all...the results were SO good! 🎉 Claude recommended “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and because Claude knew Miller loves WWII, it was exactly the kind of book he was genuinely excited to read!

Even better? I didn't have to start over every time. I created one ongoing conversation focused entirely on Miller and reading!

Now, every time Miller finishes a book he enjoys, I add it to the same chat. Little by little, it becomes a personalized guide that helps us find his next great read at the library or bookstore.

This little system has already taken one more decision off my plate, helped Miller get excited about reading, and brought a little more simplicity to our days!

I’d say this one’s earned a permanent spot in our school year routine! ❤️

Back-to-school season is officially here! 🍎

Which means I'm pulling out some of my tried-and-true organizing systems again. Last year, Real Simple asked me to share a few of the organizing products I use and recommend most, and they're still some of my favorites today!

One of the things I love most about this article is that every recommendation has a purpose. They're products I've used, trusted, and come back to because they help create simple systems that make everyday life SO much easier!

As we head into another school year, that's exactly what I've been thinking about. Being intentional about where my time gets spent surrounding all the STUFF like backpacks, lunch boxes, homework, papers, after-school activities...the list goes on! Like y’all, this is the season when our homes get crazy busy again! 😅

Having a few simple systems in place doesn't make life perfect, but it does make those everyday routines feel a whole lot less overwhelming! And I know those little wins can make a big difference! 💛

One of my favorite parts of this work is discovering what's hiding in a family's photo boxes. 📦 Not ALWAYS a photograph, but something unexpected.

Recently, I scanned a piece of memorabilia a client had tucked away for decades. The moment they saw it again, the memories came back... and so did the stories! Not just what it was, but who was there, what life looked like then, and why it mattered. 🎫

Listening to the Raising Boys & Girls podcast this month reminded me how powerful those stories really are. The relationships that shape us are built through conversations, and often those conversations begin with something tangible we can hold in our hands.

Moments like this remind me that you never really know what's sitting in a box of "stuff"... or what story is still waiting to be told, and some of the most meaningful things we preserve aren't photographs at all. It's a concert ticket from Eric Clapton at the Charlotte Coliseum in 1992. My own homecoming photos from 1996 ( ♥️ ).

Small things we tucked away without realizing how much we'd treasure them years later. Different boxes. Different lives. Same feeling.

These aren't just keepsakes, they're conversation starters. They invite our children and grandchildren to ask questions, laugh, learn, and better understand the people who came before them! That’s important!

Now having done this for two years, I KNOW every family has stories worth preserving. Sometimes all they need is a little spark to bring them back to life.

I've started showing Miller old photos from different chapters of my life. 🖼️

Not just baby pictures or family vacations, but moments from before I was "Mom." A version of me in a pink suit at a national sales meeting. A version of me building my wedding photography business. And now, a version of me running Space Maker Professional.

Every time, I get the same reaction: "No way that's you! What were you even wearing?"

And honestly... he's right. Those photos don't just show who I was. They help Miller see that being "Mom" is only one part of my story.

Recently, I listened to the Raising Boys & Girls podcast, and they shared how important it is for children to see the adults in their lives as real people, not just parents with all the answers. That REALLY resonated with me.

I began my career in pharmaceutical sales. Then I spent more than a decade building a wedding photography business from the ground up. Today, I help families preserve the photographs and memories that will one day help their own children see who they were before becoming Mom or Dad.

Looking back, none of those chapters were really about the career itself. They were about becoming who I am. About relationships, growth. About the stories that shape us.❣️

That's what I hope Miller sees when we look through these photographs together. Not just Mom as “MOM!”, but someone who kept learning, embraced new chapters, and wasn't afraid to grow.

Photographs are never just photographs. They preserve the experiences, perspective, and stories that help our children understand where they come from and remind them they can continue growing too.

Sometimes the most meaningful conversations really can start with a photograph. 📷

I still remember one that changed everything for me in 9th grade. I was being teased for being smaller than the other kids my age.

One day, my dad pulled out a few old photographs of himself, along with a newspaper clipping from when he was 15 and played on the Junior Trotters basketball team. As he looked at it, he laughed and told me they always introduced him as, "Mike Cornwell No. 00, 98 pounds soaking wet." Then he started telling me stories I'd never heard before. About being teased for his size and what it was like growing up. I'd never seen him that way before. Not just as my dad, but as a kid who had been exactly where I was.

Recently, I listened to the Raising Boys & Girls podcast about the relationship between fathers and sons. One thought stuck with me: boys don't just need advice, they need connection. They need to know the people they look up to have struggled too.

Looking back, that's exactly what my dad gave me that day. 💛

Now I'm watching my own son, Miller, go through something similar. Same lanky build. Same comments from other kids. And without even realizing it, I've started doing what my dad did for me.

We've pulled out those same photographs, and I've watched Miller realize that this chapter didn't define his grandfather. It didn’t define me. And it won't define him either.

That's what I love about family photographs! They don't just preserve what someone looked like years ago. They preserve encouragement, perspective, and life lessons our children may need one day, often when they least expect it.
