Good morning. Since this page has always seemed to be where questions arise about the osprey nest on 24/27 near Stony Mountain Road, I wanted to share this exciting news.
Several months ago I was contacted by Kristin Owens-White regarding photos of the nest before it disappeared. She is the president of the Uwharrie Wildlife Stewards and was working to try and arrange to have a permanent nesting platform installed in the area. Through her research and work, Preformed Line Products in Albemarle manufactured and donated it, and the City of Albemarle will install it on their lines.

The Uwharrie Wildlife Stewards is a community-based chapter of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, dedicated to protecting, restoring, and enhancing wildlife habitat throughout Stanly and Montgomery counties. The chapter brings together people who share a passion for wildlife, native plants, outdoor education, and conservation, and turns that passion into hands-on action. We work closely with Morrow Mountain State Park to do invasive removal, assist in educational events, and enhance wildlife habitat. We are planning some events for fall and winter that will take place in Montgomery County. We do conservation, recreation, and education events.
