Summer Doesn't Have to Be Perfect

One of my favorite things about summer is that life gets a little messier.

Bare feet.
Garden hoses.
Ice cream dripping down chins.
Picnics.
Late bedtimes.
Neighborhood adventures.

Those aren't interruptions to childhood.

They are childhood.

To adults, it can look like "just playing."

To children, it's how they learn to solve problems, negotiate friendships, test ideas, build confidence, and make sense of the world.

A cardboard box becomes a castle.
A stick becomes a fishing pole.
A blanket becomes an entire universe.

Play isn't a break from learning.

It is learning.

Those wonderfully imaginative moments are exactly the ones I love photographing because they tell the story of who your child is right now... not who we ask them to pretend to be.

The sessions are relaxed and child-led...no pressure to smile or sit still.
