Camera bags obey their own laws of physics.

Buy a small one and the lens you need won't fit.

Buy a large one and you'll fill every available compartment until you're carrying enough equipment to document a lunar landing.

The more useful question isn't “What might I need?”

It's “What am I actually going to photograph?”

Choosing equipment around a specific intention can make you faster, less tired and surprisingly more creative. A single lens can force you to solve compositions with your feet rather than another piece of glass.

Sometimes leaving equipment at home is a photographic decision rather than a compromise.
