For most of his career, photographer Joseph M Ford worked primarily with flash. Recently, he has been exploring continuous lighting—and finding a new rhythm in the process.

To create these clean beauty portraits, Joseph used one Harlowe Rocket, converted into two separate stands, paired with a Harlowe Max 80 and Max 40.

The setup came together quickly, giving him more time to focus on expression, shape, and detail. With continuous light, he could see the highlights, shadows, and skin tones develop in real time, making it easier to refine each frame before pressing the shutter.

Flash remains an important part of Joseph’s creative style, but this setup opened the door to a more immediate and intuitive way of working with light.

A beautiful location is only the beginning.

For this behind-the-scenes field session, the photographer used Harlowe’s Mini 2, Atom, and Rocket Air to bring warmth, control, and flexibility to an outdoor portrait setup.

Mini 2 helped shape the main glow. Atom added small creative accents. Rocket Air kept the setup fast, portable, and ready to move with the scene.
