Hey all! I thought I’d give you guys a little background on myself and how I became a photographer, if you’ve ever wondered about my experience. So here it is!
It is so hard to believe I received my first ever entry level camera (Canon Rebel!) just 5 years ago for my birthday. This is one of my first ever images with it and also one of my favorites of my sister and my son. (Trust me- most of my images in the beginning were not good- this was definitely beginner’s luck!). Prior to this I was a stay at home mom for three years, and prior to that I was a student studying neuroscience with post graduate work in Prosthetics. The sciences may be my background but the creative arts are definitely my passion!
After I received my camera I immediately fell in love with learning how to use it in manual mode, how to work with natural light, and how to edit images using Adobe Lightroom. What continued as a hobby, has grown into a small business with opportunities I never would have imagined (seriously— weddings!?!). Two and a half years ago I received a new confidence (by the grace of God) to start my business and actually work with people other than my family. It was SO out of character for me and at first uncomfortable but I have grown SO much in just a few short years. I love working with people now- hearing their story, looking for creative composition, and capturing genuine moments for them (candids are my fave!). Presenting to clients images that they love gives me so much joy and I am SO excited to see where God has me in another five years as I continue to grow in my knowledge and experience. I would absolutely love to own a studio someday.
One thing I have learned through this is- if you find something you love- you will never stop learning how to be better at it. That is when you know you have found your passion. There are growing pains along the way because growth is always uncomfortable regardless if it’s personal, professional, or spiritual growth. I’ve learned to accept it knowing it has a purpose. 👊
My advice to new photogs- learn to use your camera in MANUAL setting. It will serve you well once you know how! Also learn how to use the position and source of light to your advantage. Play around with it- it’s definitely a learning process. Lastly- have FUN! If it’s fun for you your photos will reflect that!
A little more about me- I am a vocalist and I help lead worship at my church which is also a passion of mine. I love spending time at home with my husband and two children. We are primarily “home-bodies” but love to travel when we can. I love deep conversations, delicious coffee (which seem to naturally go together 😉), cooking and fitness (which naturally don’t), and playing card games with friends. I seem to be a jack of all trades, master of none don’t I? 🙃
Thank you all for your continued support and business and I’m looking forward to serving you!
