Carcross is a historic Yukon village located on Bennett Lake, 74 km south of Whitehorse on the Klondike Highway. Known for First Nations culture, the Carcross Desert (often called the world's smallest desert), and the vintage White Pass & Yukon Route railway connecting it to Skagway, Alaska.

One of the most meaningful parts of visiting Carcross is the chance to learn about the Carcross/Tagish First Nation, whose people have lived on this land for thousands of years.

Carcross was originally called β€œCaribou Crossing” because of the large number of woodland caribou that migrated through the region.

Spending the day here, we shopped in the Carcross commons, enjoyed lunch at the bakery, took some time to wander the few streets of Carcross to enjoy the many buildings that are over 100 years old, and fascinating to see. We ended our walk with a stroll along Bennett Beach, where you can look out over the lake that was once a vital link in the Klondike Gold Rush trail, which led hopeful prospectors all the way north to Dawson City, Yukon.

We even seen the White Pass train come through. 😎

This is Frankie (parents are Imani and Sea Rocket). πŸ₯°

One of two surviving piping plover chicks hatched at Chicago's Montrose Beach in June 2026. Named after house music pioneer Frankie Knuckles, Frankie and his sibling Buddy are being carefully monitored by the Chicago Piping Plovers after the tragic loss of their two other siblings.

Soon he will leave the protected beach of Chicago that they call home and fly to warmer beaches. Safe and happy travels little guy. 😎

Just In case you missed these guys. They have left, but I have so many more photos to go through. 🧑 ...

We cruised in early at Juneau and were surrounded by so many eagles, we could not even count. 😎

They are notoriously opportunistic feeders and love when the ships arrive and churn up the water, making it incredibly easy for all the patiently waiting eagles to swoop down and sn**ch all the fish.

For me, seeing so many in one location was incredible. I appreciate the one or two I see here in Illinois, but this will definitely be one on my favorite memories. πŸ₯°

There are places that take your breath away, and then there are moments that leave your soul in complete awe. Watching Alaska's majestic glaciers glow with the brilliant blues and shimmering whites against the rugged mountain peaks was on of these moments. The stillness of the water, the crisp mountain air and immense beauty surrounding us created an unforgettable experience. It is a reminder that some of the world's greatest masterpieces are created by nature itself.

Some of the glaciers we seen cruising through College Fjord. 🩡

The first is Harvard Glacier that sits at the head of the fjord.
Bryn Mawr Glacier is a smaller valley glacier
Cascade Glacier is a multi-tiered glacier flowing down over rocky ridges.
The last glacier is Wesley Glacier. It is a steep valley glacier that sits in a dramatic notch between two mountains.

Love that look. 😎So many eagles to enjoy. This was also in the Ketchikan rainforest.

This is the Townsend's warbler. 😎

It is a dazzling, acrobatic songbird that breeds in the Pacific Northwest and spends its winters along the Pacific Coast, Mexico, and Central America. Once in a while one might show up in Illinois but I miss it every time.

We were in Juneau when I heard him first. Very excited to finally see my first one. They have a high-pitched, buzzy series of notes that typically sounds like weazy-weazy-weazy-twea, ending on a higher pitch. Below is a link to hear their sound. πŸ₯°
