AON Center, Chicago, Illinois. June 2026. Originally the Standard Oil Building, it opened in 1973 and may be most famous for looking like either of the original World Trade Center building in New York. It's lit up here for the upcoming 250th Birthday of America.

The Sears Tower (aka Willis Tower), Chicago, Illinois. June 2026

While it was the tallest building in the world from 1972-1998, it now the third tallest building in North America, but no building in North American has more floors. It tops out at 110.

One of my favorite train bridges to photograph in the city. A bascule bridge (a type of draw bridge) only one of them still goes up & down.

The statute of Ceres on the roof has a flat, nondescript face because when it was built in 1930 they didn't think many buildings would surpass the 44 floors it had. The Sears/Willis Tower was built 2-blocks away 40 years later.
