There are countless iconic locations in Chicago to take wedding portraits, but sometimes the most suitable for a particular couple is somewhere simple, personal, and close to home. The first photo, featuring Sara & Jesse was shot on a rain-kissed Logan Blvd, while the second, featuring Katie & Andy, was taken outside of their local CTA stop. The final image, from Megan & Nick's wedding day, was spontaneously shot using the train overpass that runs along Ravenswood Ave. It just goes to show, it's the couple that make the photos special.

If you're going to shoot a wedding in Detroit odds are you'll be making a stop for some portraits in Belle Isle, or in front of the iconic train station. For Rachel & Tyler—pictured here on their wedding day in 2017— we had time for both. During the reception at the Atheneum Hotel we were allowed out on the roof for some breathtaking city views. City weddings don't get much better than this.

We've shot weddings in all imaginable conditions, but Kaity & Bobby's special day—pictured here—takes the prize for hottest wedding day ever. So, so hot. If the cameras were flipped and you saw us you would have seen a sweaty mess, but looking at these two, they were cool as cucumbers the entire portrait session. It was unbelievable, really, how good they looked. Oh, and be sure to scroll to the end to see where Kaity cooled down for a quick refreshment.

The wedding day is all about the couple getting married, obviously. But some celebrations would not be the same without the bridal party. These group photos were both taken at another iconic Chicago spot, Lincoln Park. The first—taken in 2013 on the bridge that connects the park the the zoo— features Jessica and John's crew. The second— taken in the fall of 2014 at the Nature Boardwalk—feature Natalie and Garrett's nearest and dearest.

These photos are from Darci & Marques's wedding day back in 2014. These two were so easy going, and just wonderful to work with. They wanted some photos that had a city feel, but also had some greenery, so we headed to one of our favorite spots: the gardens at the Art Institute of Chicago.

We're celebrating 12 years of Francis Marie Photography! In the coming weeks we'll be going through our archives and looking back at some of our favorite photographs, sharing stories of how they were made, and talking about what lies ahead for the future.

These are our pals Susie and Demian, photographed on their wedding day in Chicago in 2010. When we first started out, most—if not all— of our clients were our friends. Without their initial trust we never would have been able to get this business off the ground, and we're forever grateful.

The second photo was taken after an impromptu "jump session," which Demian couldn't perform in his uncomfortable shoes, hence the socks n the grass.

This is Sabrina, one of our first brides, photographed during the limo ride in Detroit 2009. This photo helped cement our mission statement of "capturing the moments in between the moments," which we still stand by to this day.
