A few moments from the 2026 National Powwow in Danville, Indiana.
I was there as both a writer and photographer, capturing images for an upcoming article. The craftsmanship of the regalia is remarkable, as is the individuality of each dancer. The colors, beadwork, feathers, ribbons, and other handmade elements combine to create a unique visual identity for every person who enters the arena of the intertribal powwow. This time I wrote about the Flyway City exhibition at the Chicago Architecture Center and the work of architect Jeanne Gang, exploring how architecture can help create more bird-friendly cities.
