Before the celebrations, the wedding plans, before they began telling everyone they knew, there was this. A quiet afternoon, a lakeshore, and a promise to spend a lifetime together.

Now looking for more excuses to photograph people at the farmers market. We started at Cheney Mansion, a place that holds special meaning in Laura and Jordan’s story, and then wandered through the market grabbing donuts, admiring flowers, and letting the morning unfold naturally. It was such a fun change of pace.

From maternity to one year to two, it’s been such a joy watching the Callighan family grow. We kept this session simple: time at home, a walk to the park, and letting their daughter V lead the way. Sometimes the ordinary moments end up meaning the most.

The Carrs are good friends of ours, and their daughter Fiona is the same age as our son, which makes these sessions especially fun. I love getting to document each new chapter of their growing family and watching Fiona and Emmett get a little older every time they step in front of my camera.

I’ve been slowly making my way through a roll of film from walks around the Loop. One of my favorite surprises with film is getting it back and finding accidental double exposures I had completely forgotten about. Buildings layered over one another, reflections blending together, pieces of the city that somehow ended up sharing the same frame. It feels a little like the way memories work. Not perfectly sharp, just layers of places and moments folding into each other.

There are moments that divide a life into before and after. This was one of them. A quiet walk by the lake became the beginning of a new chapter, filled with lots of laughter and one very easy “yes.” Congratulations, Tommy + Kaydon. Thank you for letting me preserve these valuable pages of your story together!

I love making portraits, but I think I’ll always have a soft spot for photographs like this; a completely candid moment of two brothers spending a summer evening together at the library park, ice cream in hand. Sometimes the best photographs are simply noticed, not made.

First family photos for Dawn, Aaron, and Orion. At 1.5 years old, Orion quickly decided a water feature was far more interesting than me, which honestly made for the best photos. I love this stage of life because family sessions become less about posing and more about following little ones around and capturing all the details that make them who they are right now.

I’ve known Laura since high school, so getting to photograph this season of life for her felt extra meaningful. She and Jordan were up for anything, easygoing, and so clearly excited for the little one joining them this summer. You can tell how much love they have for each other, and I can’t wait to see them become parents.
