We got to tour the new USS Cleveland on May 14 and it was so cool to get to see the US Navy’s newest ship! We could only take pictures outside and in the chair by the black background. She’s an absolute beauty inside and out!

The Commissioning Ceremony is on Saturday and I can’t make it, so I’m thankful to have had the chances we have for the arrival, community day, and the tour!

We had so much fun at USS Cleveland Legacy Foundation’s Community Day today! It was fun being greeted by the This is Cleveland postcard and we got to paint a little of Kinley Studio: Artist Shaun Kinley, Jennifer Kinley’s beautiful painting that will go on the ship, and did a lesson in buoyancy from Great Lakes Science Center!

We ended the day with a visit to the SS William G Mather and it was amazing getting pictures of a new ship from the pilot house and deck of a 100 year-old freighter!

So glad to live in Cleveland where so much fun is free and the memories are priceless!

One of the great things about living in Cleveland is the once-in-a-lifetime moments that cost nothing and are absolutely priceless. May 9, 2026 was no exception as we went to Wendy Park and welcomed the USS Cleveland to her namesake city! Jayden and I set up by the kayak launch at Wendy Park so that he could play in the sand (and water!) before the ship arrived, and we had a nice, quiet spot to relax and enjoy a beautiful day! We had a great view of the ship and it was perfect for the DSLR to come out (usually you all get my iPhone shots!).

We'll be attending Community Day later today and will tour the ship itself on Thursday- we will definitely share those pictures with you here (if we are allowed to take pictures). Unfortunately I can't make it to her Commissioning Ceremony due to work commitments, but I am so thankful to experience the arrival and be on a tour!

Many thanks to USS Cleveland Legacy Foundation for making sure that everyone knew when and where to see her, and helping everyone be a part of welcoming the USS Cleveland to her namesake city!

We watched the USS Cleveland come in to Cleveland on 5/9/26 from a lovely spot at Wendy Park!

I brought my DSLR and those pics are coming soon! There were a lot of viewing spots on the shore, and we loved our nice little tucked-away spot!

We plan to go to the Community Day tomorrow and we have tickets to tour the ship on Thursday!

Amazing day in Cleveland at Wendy Park watching the Herbert C Jackson (with G-tugs Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico) and American Courage go by. I’ve never seen Herbert C Jackson this close and she’s a beauty! She was getting moored by the cement terminal near the mouth of the river. It was a great way to end a fun day out for us!

SDunn Aerial Photography gave the heads up that Alpena was making a rare in-season visit to Cleveland today (March 19, 2026), and while I missed her arrival, Jayden and I were able to watch her go. We stopped by for a couple pictures and noticed that G-tug Puerto Rico was there and decided to head over to Wendy Park to watch her leave. She’s so gorgeous!

Many thanks to SDunn Aerial Photography for giving me the heads up that Alpena was leaving her winter layup in Cleveland on 3-11-26! Pulled up by Amrize in time to watch her pull away with assistance from G-tug Puerto Rico, then went to Wendy Park to watch her head out into the lake and begin her 84th season on the Lakes. It was windy and cold but a beautiful sunny day! She looks gorgeous on a sunny day!
