I made a slightly viral post... let's talk about it.
An organization that alleges to care deeply for children not only claims that same-sex parenting
shouldn't exist... but that it doesn't exist at all. But, if it didn't exist, there would have been no need to make the billboard in the first place. It's pretty incredible how hate can blind people from denying the truth. Not what should be and shouldn't be... but what simply is.
The billboard reads: No child has two dads. No child has two moms.
This messaging was absolutely unacceptable and needlessly hurtful, and as the Director of
Marketing and Communications of Whitley County Pride, it was time to say something. The
President of WCP reached out and asked what we can do to respond to this unfortunate
billboard, and I knew just the thing: Respond with kindness while holding them accountable. π
In 20 hours since posting the "corrected" imageand the caption I wrote:
π Over 1,000 humans and counting reacted positively to the post (all-time largest post for
WCP)
π¦ Currently 12 comments of gratitude, kindness, and people sharing their safe spaces
π Nearly 60 shares from people spreading our message to their own communities
What's my marketing strategy? Pretty simple: advocate for humans. advocate for love. advocate for kiddos. advocate for every voice. advocate for EVERYONE.
Will it always get me likes and comments and shares? Perhaps not. Will I miss out on opportunities because I am willing to speak out and support others? Unfortunately, probably.
This is what being a creator is all about. I try my best to blend in and be neutral when I can and
be professional when I can, but not at the cost of not advocating for my LGBTQIA+ friends and
community members. They aren't going to stop the hate, but we're not going to stop the love,
either.
Thank you for being here. If you're able, PLEASE donate to Whitley County Pride to keep
this wonderful organization going.
