What happened to Double Dutch?

I had the opportunity to watch Sugarfoot of the Ohio Players perform at one of his last open-air concerts in Columbus, Ohio, in August 2013, at Bicentennial Park. That evening, the temperature was a scorching 98 degrees, with a heat index reaching around 105. Under the stage lights, it must have felt like at least 110 degrees. I was overheated just standing backstage taking photos, so I could only imagine what he was feeling, especially given his frail health.

Columbus, Ohio, often under the radar, is home to some of the most dynamic musical talent in America. One group that has been gaining nationwide recognition is “The Deal Breakers.” I first became familiar with them in the summer of 2023 when our creative design studio was located next to their practice space. They rehearsed two to three evenings a week, and let me tell you, the walls were vibrating with their Go-Go, soul, and funk rhythms.

Flashback: Tiyana Payne, formerly known as T-Baby, was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. She was brought up by her single mother, who played classic R&B music from artists like Earth, Wind & Fire, Luther Vandross, and Aretha Franklin. This exposure led Tiyana to develop a deep love for music at a young age. As an only child for the first eight years of her life, music provided her not only with entertainment but also with relatable experiences and emotions.
She enjoyed listening to music so much that she began writing her own songs at the age of six. Growing up watching BET and MTV, her interest in hip hop sparked in the early nineties, especially with the emergence of iconic rappers like 2Pac, Biggie Smalls, Lil' Kim, and Foxy Brown.
