The OM System Olympus MC-14 teleconverter practically lives on my Olympus 100-400mm f/5-6.3 M.Zuiko ED Mark I lens. I use it almost every time I photograph birds or wildlife and need some extra reach. I find the teleconverter doesn’t noticeably slow down the camera’s focusing or restrict me too much in good light.

The last few times I’d shot, I’d noticed a slight wiggle of the lens on the camera, and my viewfinder and screen would occasionally switch off. So, when I took the lens out of my bag on Saturday, I wasn’t entirely surprised to see the o-ring weatherproofing seal exposed. I was upset, though.

Returning home from my photo walk, I visited OM System’s Service & Repair web page to learn if repairing the teleconverter was possible and what it would cost. Completing the online repair form was quick and easy. OM System estimates the repair to cost $155.61. The confirmation email states, “Once we receive your item for repair, we will provide you with an accurate quote.” If I get lucky — and I’m not holding my breath — perhaps the repair might cost less.

Even at full price, the repair costs less than buying a new teleconverter. Amazon sells the lens for $202.37, with shipping taking up to six weeks from Japan. And, given my frequent use of the teleconverter, I’ll gladly pay for the repair and save $50+.

I’ll be shipping the lens to OM System’s New Jersey repair facility this week. I’ll keep Olympus Enthusiast readers updated on the status of my repair through future postings.

Rumour is that we’ll see a new PEN from OM System soon. Gavin Stoker thinks if OM System did make a true Olympus Trip 35 in digital form, it could be a Fujifilm X100VI killer:

On Wednesday, while at Inniswood Metro Gardens, I used my telephoto lens to capture these close-ups of a variety of flowers. I am proud of the small details I was able to include, like the water droplets on the petals and the pollen on the stamens. I've included the names of the flowers in the captions of each photo. All are best seen full size.

Technical details: All images were captured with my OM System Olympus OM-D E-M 1 Mark II with the M.100-400mm F5.0-6.3 + MC-14. Edited in ON1 Photo Raw 2026.5 - which is absolute magic!
