High Shoals Falls overlook. It’s quite a steep climb, but it’s rewarding. I was excited to find a cave beside the waterfall. It looks like somewhere where you would find hidden loot in a video game or a fairy tale.

South Mountains State Park might be my favorite park in the Carolinas so far. It’s a story book setting with a beautiful waterfall and trout River. There’s something here for everyone. Plenty of water for the kids to play in. A short but strenuous hike to the waterfall and all manner of camping from car camping by the river to equestrian camping in the back country.

Landsford Canal State Park
Catawba SC

This will always be home to me. It’s one of the parks I grew up in and I’ll always come back. It’s always spotlessly maintained and has one of the best trails in the area.

I visited Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina Nov. 2020
I hiked the Stone Mountain loop trail including Raven Rock and Cedar Rock trails. It was an exhausting 8.7mi 1447ft hike, but extremely rewarding.

My first hammock camping experience was June 2018. It was an adventure setting up my tarp and cooking over a gas stove. I didn’t sleep well, because I could hear thunder in the distance and thoughts of wild pigs invading camp kept creeping up on me.

Walking through water is so satisfying. There was some ice underneath the snowmelt so I had to stay vigilant!

Short first hike of the year. One mile loop testing out my new Gregory 65L.
