In my 40's as I got back into a childhood hobby- camping, and accidentally discovered a talent for photography. It was my way of hitting the “save button” of my mind’s eye in order to bring back some of the natural beauty of Minnesota’s State Parks. I began to collect mileage in the State Parks’ Hiking Club and finished all 200 miles by visiting 70 parks over the course of three years from 2012 to

2015. During that time I also bought my RV camper trailer (Stella) which helped me get out and about, sometimes even beyond Minnesota’s borders. Stella has taken me, along with friends and family, to Texas and back as well as around Lake Michigan. After all of that camping and travel my photography skills got plenty of development. Photography has become such a habit that my most common subject has become Minneapolis, where I live and work. With lots of good feedback on Facebook and Instagram I began to sell prints and canvases, as well as calendars over the past few years. This website will serve as a gallery for family, friends, and even strangers to view what I’m up to and start a conversation about any of my work that they would like to hang in their home.

Riverside Sunset

While on a solo camping trip in Wisconsin I took a hike near sunset. I found this timber landscaped staircase down to the river and just stayed put and watched the whole process of the setting sun. Normally I try to avoid sunspots and flares but in this case the only seem to enhance the natural beauty I was trying to capture. The walk back to the campsite in the dark was totally worth it.

Art like “Minnesota Up North” often becomes the anchor. It gives everything else a point of reference, whether that’s furniture, lighting, or color choices.

There’s a quiet pull sometimes to do things a little differently.

Take a new route. Try something new. Shift your routine just enough to notice.

It doesn’t have to be a big change, just something that makes life feel a little less automatic.

Could "Autumn Hiking Trail" be part of that shift?

I was just getting used to my first full-frame camera (the Canon 5D mkIII) in the fall of 2020. On a visit to my parents at the family cabin I went on a side trip to look for fall colors with my Dad and dog, Walter. Plan A was to hike the Oberg Mountain Loop on the Superior Hiking Trail. What we had not factored in, however, was that everyone else had the same idea. There were no other options for travel during COVID, and the parking lots and trails were filled to capacity. We even saw a couple SUVs whose drivers weren't familiar with country roads lying on their sides in the ditch. They weren't aware that there was no shoulder at all, but pulled off the road as if there was one. Anyway, Plan B was to visit George Crosby Manitou State Park, where we got this beautiful image on the trail. This is one of my four images used by Black Bear Casino/Hotel in their 2023 remodel.

There’s a difference between owning art and living with it.

“St Anthony Main - Winter” is a reminder that the spaces you move through every day can feel considered, personal, and alive.

Art doesn’t need a special occasion to matter. It works best when it becomes part of your rhythm.
