Isabella Grace 🤍
Thank you, Matt and Allyson for letting me capture more of life’s special moments for you! I can’t wait to see y’all flourish as a family of four!

Last week, I had the opportunity to go along for a cattle roundup, and the experience was eye-opening in many ways. From the work the Alexanders do to the fun they have, it’s stuff that, in the words of Shelby, “not many people do anymore.” And I’m glad I was able to witness just a small glimpse of it, which has expanded into a greater appreciation and admiration for them both.

it’s been a good week of shooting, and I can’t wait to see and share the film from it.

started off the week with a shoot of some cowboys and cowgirls, which was an awesome experience even from afar. thank you, Ben and Shelby for letting me come with and seeing into your world! then Thursday there was some deep and beautiful fog on the way into work that I just had to get. started the weekend off outside enjoying the spring through runny noses, puffy eyes, and all. and ended it with my first newborn shoot. can’t wait to share.

I’ve had a bit of an internal conflict between posting my Fuji stuff on here when my goal is for my film stuff to be here. However I don’t want to have separate pages for photos, so I have decided to do a digital day (probably not always Saturdays) that will be pictures that are taken on my Fuji.

We’ve been out all day (window) thrifting and I just wanted to document some moments from the day.

a few months ago, one of my favorite cameras broke. it was a and the lens was stuck in an out position. I thought the camera was as good as done as it was more expensive to fix than just buy another one. however I picked it up a couple weeks ago, opened the back, and it just started working. here are some shots from the first roll of since getting it working again!

Reasons I Shoot On Film #2: Nostalgia
Being on the back end of a (mostly) analogue generation tends to make you feel a yearning toward “days gone by.” The feeling of pressing a physical button on a corded house phone, turning a handle to “roll up” a window, even a manual can opener, brings a sense of nostalgia to me. And that’s a lot of what I’ve found with shooting film.

I remember the days of looking at photo albums or putting old film negatives up against light to see what was on them, and it was always so exciting. Going on vacations with little disposable cameras and then coming back home excited to see what was taken. Those memories burned onto film. There’s a nostalgic connection to shooting the same way still today.

The reason I shoot on film is because you don’t know what you’ll get back sometimes. Obviously, if you know your way around a camera, you’ll lower your chances for things like exposure or focus issues, but they still happen. And to me, that’s where the beauty lies in the analog nature of film.

It connects to a memory in a way that your brain recalls a memory: not always vivid, but true. You can think of some amazing holidays, trips, moments in your life, and while the details don’t come back perfect, you can connect to it in a way that is more tied to the feeling than a clear-cut recollection of it. That’s how I see film, and how I want others to experience it as well.
