I’m honored to begin East Austin: Home, a community portrait and oral history project rooted in preserving the people, memories, and presence that make East Austin home.

I’m looking to connect with elders, families, longtime residents, and others with deep ties to East Austin who would be open to being photographed for this project. I’m also hoping to speak with those who live and have lived in East Austin’s public housing developments, so that their voices, stories, and lived experiences can be held with care and become part of this work.

Honored to share In Stillness and Between Steel and Soul in Signals and Presence, presented by MONAD in Austin, Texas.

One image leans into silence.
One image moves through steel, street, and soul.

Both are rooted in presence, memory, and the layered beauty of Black life. This is the heart of my practice: fine art photography, Black portraiture, documentary storytelling, and black and white images that hold feeling beyond the moment they were made.

I spent Black History Month where I always try to be, close to the people.

On the steps of City Hall, in the echo of horns and drums, in the quiet clasp of hands between elders and sons. I watched young musicians lift their instruments toward the Austin sky like prayers. I watched brothers greet each other with shoulders squared and palms raised, history carried in their posture. I watched joy move through generations without asking permission.

These are not just photographs.
They are evidence.

Evidence that we are still here.
Still creating.
Still mentoring.
Still laughing in parking lots and lining up for food trucks.
Still filling council chambers with rhythm and truth.

Black history is not a chapter behind us. It is breath. It is sound. It is touch. It is the way a hand rests on a shoulder and says, I see you.

This month I did not just document events.
I witnessed legacy in motion.

Austin, thank you for letting me hold these moments.
