Today marks a major milestone for Visit Damascus, Virginia and Southwest Virginia tourism. The Virginia Creeper Trail Celebration Groundbreaking officially kicked off a year-long rebuild of the Virginia Creeper Trail, led by Kiewit Corporation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.

With Governor Glenn Youngkin and local officials in attendance, this project represents a significant investment in restoring one of the most iconic outdoor recreation destinations in the region. The Virginia Creeper Trail has long been a cornerstone of adventure tourism, economic growth, and community identity for Damascus and surrounding areas.

This rebuild ensures the trail’s future for residents, visitors, and generations to come, strengthening Southwest Virginia’s role as a premier destination for outdoor recreation.

I’m out running a few errands this morning, so I just have my phone with me. But I still had to pull over and snap this image of the first snow of the season as it starts to cover the Virginia Creeper Trail just north of Visit Damascus, Virginia.

If your photos don’t match what customers actually see, it can hurt your brand.

I have noticed more local businesses starting to use AI images to promote their products or services. The issue is that it often stands out when the image is not real. Customers can tell when what they see online is not what they will receive.

Real photography builds trust. Honest images of your food, your space, and your products show the care and quality you put into everything you make.

Running a business takes time and energy. That is why I offer a social media image service that provides authentic photos ready to post. It helps your brand stay true and saves you the stress of creating content on your own.

Send me a message and let’s figure out how we can work together to build your brands image.

Alison Little of Visual Uprising Photo, who also owns Green Cove Collective in downtown Damascus with her husband Scott, and I hosted a photography walk around Visit Damascus, Virginia, this evening. It was a lot of fun, and I think everyone who joined us had a blast. At one point, Alison got stuck in the mud, and I was laughing so hard that I didn’t even get a photo of it.

Alison and I are already planning another photo walk next month when the leaves are at their peak, or as close as we can get to it. If you’re interested in hanging out with other photographers and spending some time taking photos, keep an eye out for the details soon.

Here are my photos that I snapped from the walk. Hopefully, the other participants will post theirs as well, and I will share them from their pages.

I had the privilege of photographing recovery work with the Trail Conservancy near Cherry Gap, Tennessee. Crews and volunteers, including three visitors from Japan, worked to repair sections of the Trail that were damaged by Hurricane Helene.

I spent the day hiking in with ATC staff, documenting the teamwork and effort that goes into keeping the Trail open and safe. You can see the full story and photos from the day on my blog.

Every Thursday at the Damascus Farmers Market I get to be part of a jam band that welcomes anyone who wants to play. Over time we have had a fiddler drop in regularly, a trumpet player who toured with the Marleys, and plenty of locals who simply want to make music together.

This week Buddy, a local farmer with his guitar, joined us. I look forward to this jam session each week and it helps to keep my artistic side alive. The energy of making music has been feeding directly into my photography.

I snapped these two photos of Buddy with my phone prior to the rest of the jammers showing up.

Recently, I headed to Marion, VA, for a Virginia Business assignment to photograph Joe Ellis, the driving force behind the new Birthplace of Modern Mountain Dew Museum, to be featured in their September issue. The plan was to grab a few portraits outside the building, but once I saw the original soda counter and a row of vintage glass bottles inside, I knew those were going to be the portraits from the quick session.

I had the pleasure of photographing for the Damascus Old Mill in Damascus, VA, recently. Capturing their delicious dishes and inviting spaces reminded me how powerful a good photo can be for a restaurant or inn. High-quality images help businesses show off what makes them special and connect with guests before they even walk in.

Send me a message so that we can have a chat about how photography can help bring your business to life.

Your business deserves photography that works as hard as you do.
I recently worked with The Damascus Old Mill to create a collection of images they can use across their website, social media, and print marketing. From their kitchen team in action to seasonal holiday décor, these photos tell their story and help them connect with customers year-round.
If you want to build a strong visual presence for your brand, now is the time to invest in a social media branding session. Let’s create images that highlight your atmosphere, products, and people.
