Probability of Watch Issuance...40 percent

SUMMARY...A risk for damaging winds will evolve from eastward moving
outflow in the lower Ohio Valley. The coverage of strong/severe
storms is not clear, but a watch is possible this afternoon. Trends
will be monitored.

DISCUSSION...Outflow from convection associated with an MCV
northwest of St. Louis is moving eastward into the lower Ohio
Valley. As this boundary moves into an increasingly unstable airmass
with strong heating and mid/upper 70s F dewpoints, some
intensification is possible. The main risk for damaging winds will
likely occur south of the cirrus plume from the MCV. With the MCV
displaced to the northwest, shear/forcing enhancement will be
minimal. The degree of damaging wind threat will be tied to how
organized convection along the outflow boundary becomes. A watch is
possible if convective trends warrant.

There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms across portions of central Illinois during the afternoon and evening hours. The threat for storms will settle south of I-72 during the late evening and overnight hours.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will move across central Indiana this evening into tonight with the potential for isolated severe wind gusts to 60 mph. A slight risk, or category 2 out of 5, is in effect for southwestern portions of central Indiana. In addition, much of central Indiana has the potential for isolated flash flooding owing to thunderstorms with heavy rain moving over the same locations. Stay aware of weather conditions today into tonight and be prepared to take action if storms threaten or warnings are issued.

We are monitoring the potential for severe storms today, anytime from late afternoon and into the early overnight. The primary threat looks to be damaging winds. Additional severe storms are possible Friday and maybe again on Saturday.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...All of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, southwest
Indiana, and western Kentucky.

* WHEN...From 1 PM CDT /2 PM EDT/ this afternoon through late
Saturday night.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Repeat rounds of thunderstorms over the next several days will
increase the threat for flooding. While 1 to 2 inches is forecast
on average, the flooding threat is more from any storms that
might sit or repeat over the same areas...where 2 to 3 times that
average amount may be enhanced locally, leading to flood issues.
