This is a huge one

A busy classroom rarely needs more rigid rules, but it almost always needs more connection. When we shift our focus from managing behaviour to meeting unmet needs, the entire atmosphere changes. By looking for the trigger and the source of dysregulation, we provide the safety children require to return to play. You are doing an incredible job navigating these complex emotional moments with compassion and grace.

When you see this photo what does it make you think of ? Cooking,? Baking? Right .. but wrong

When your kid is having big emotions and throwing things, tantrums, screaming whatever it is don’t let you first thought to be stop them, get onto to them, yell at them or pouring more salt on the wound. What most people doesn’t understand is kids are mini adults without the power and ability to understand and regulate their emotions. thats why they need us to SALT….. STOP, AND LISTEN THOUGHTFULLY.

If you guys haven’t explored Mrs Deborah L. Tillman page I HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest it she gives amazing insight, boundaries, and advice that’s a lot of parents should be implementing with their children.

Have you ever heard/ or experienced?
A mother sixth sense.

-Once I had my oldest daughter, I always knew when sickness was near, when she was going to fall or needed a specific something, I never knew or understood how I always knew but I did and the older she grew the stronger the sense gotten.

This is why play is LEARN ! Gross motor skills, Fine motor skills are super important at such young age even milestones for babies like grasping at objects, it’s building the body to strengthen the mind. They can’t write their name if they can’t hold a pencil and they can’t hold a pencil if they play(work) on fine motor skills first

We need to stop asking if a four year old can write their name and start asking if they can climb a tree or hang from the monkey bars. I know it sounds counterintuitive, especially when we are bombarded with the idea that academic success starts with a workbook, but the science of child development tells a very different story.

I see it so often. A child is struggling with handwriting, not because they do not know the letters, but because they do not have the core strength to sit upright at a desk or the shoulder stability to move a pencil across a page. A worksheet is a 2D solution to a 3D problem. If the foundations of the body are not strong, the fine motor skills will always struggle to follow.

When we push children into academic tasks before their bodies are physically ready, we are not giving them a head start. We are actually setting them up for a lifetime of physical fatigue and frustration. If a child has to use all their energy just to keep their body from slumping over, they have no mental energy left for learning.

Our educators know this. When they choose a morning of climbing, digging in the mud, or navigating an obstacle course, they are doing the deep, essential work of school readiness. They are building the core, the grip strength, and the visual tracking skills that will eventually make reading and writing feel easy.

Educators, what is the one thing you wish parents understood about the importance of play over paperwork?

Parents, what is your biggest worry when it becomes to your child being ready for school?

Have you guys ever heard of the bedtime window theory ?

that "stalling" or chatty behavior is actually a neurological release, not manipulation. It is the natural, specific time a child’s nervous system relaxes melatonin rises and cortisol drops allowing them to feel safe enough to share thoughts, worries, or emotions they held back all day. And even though we’re tired and ready for the day to end, this window is where so much connection lives for them. So when they start talking a little extra at night, start trying to slow down, lean in, and listen. Because these quiet, sleepy moments are where they often share the things they don’t say anywhere else.

Expecting 3-year-olds to naturally 'take turns' is like expecting them to write their name. There's many developmental steps needed to master first, before this task.

One key area that needs development is the prefrontal cortex - responsible for impulse control and waiting. This area isn't developmentally ready for traditional turn-taking at 3, and I know adults who still haven't developed this area. Me included!

Research shows 3-year-olds are still developing:
* Joint attention skills (following others' gaze)
* Basic impulse regulation (with LOTS of support)
* Understanding of 'waiting' concepts (but not ex*****on)

So when Maya grabs the ball instead of waiting her turn, she's not being 'naughty' - her brain literally can't override the impulse yet.

Rather than getting frustrated at Maya, lets work on:
* Joint attention through songs and games
* Impulse control through movement and sensory regulation

Most early childhood training focuses on 'teaching turn-taking' but misses the neurological prerequisites.

What are you seeing in your 3-year-old programs?

Embracing play is a powerful way for children to discover their passions and develop essential life skills, unlocking a brighter future.
