Smash the Patriarchy isn’t thinking big enough. We have to look at the entire system we’ve built as a society, and understand how it hurts so many of our friends, family and communities. We have to look at real systemic change. We have to dismantle White Supremacy. I’m not talking about extremists, I’m talking about a system that was built by and for the benefit of white people, specifically white straight men. I know we can do better, if we dedicate ourselves to that change.
It’s been a week since blackout Tuesday. Since then, I’ve protested (online and at the capital), signed petitions, made donations, had uncomfortable conversations and lost followers. But more than that, I’ve been looking at my own life and my role in our imbalanced society. There have been days when all I want to do is fight for real equality and hit the pavement. But smashing the supremacy is so much more than that. We also need to change our relationship to Black culture.
Being an ally isn’t a goal we can actually achieve. It’s an ongoing process. So let’s support each other on that goal and share ideas to get there.
I can share all the information, petitions, and images but it’s also important to in our daily lives. That includes following Black activists, businesses and creatives. That includes following new hashtags like and more. Following curator accounts and publications like to broaden our intake and inspiration.
It’s been one week. And next week I hope to keep pushing forward. Please feel free to comment any ideas you’d like to share.

I’m choosing to share resources, not a black square. I think you’re all amazing for showing support, but also hope it doesn’t end with one social media post. And if all you’re seeing are black squares today, you’re probably not following many POC. What’s the point in amplifying melanated voices if you’re not following/listening to those people? Feel free to share resources in the comments.

Coming out of Instagram retirement for this. Because, say it with me: Black Lives Matter
Silence isn’t an option here. Idgaf about the aesthetic of my page. I care that my fellow citizens are being treated as subhuman. I care that we are a decade into police being recorded and shown unlawfully murdering citizens with no real consequences. I care that Denver is arresting peaceful protestors for being out past 8pm. I care that the wedding industry is politically soft and reposting graphics is the norm, and so is doing nothing.
The question I’m asking, do you care?
