"Chris Ahern is a Detroit-based photographer and FAA-certified drone pilot known for capturing the visual rhythm of place — blending urban energy of Detroit and the natural beauty of Michigan’s most scenic destinations. What makes Chris’s work stand out isn’t just his technical skill with a camera or drone, it’s the way he sees a moment before he captures it. Whether he’s flying above the skyline
at golden hour, photographing a wedding, or covering a major event downtown, his images are about connection, not just composition. There’s always a sense of presence in his work — a Midwestern mix of realism, respect, and quiet storytelling. Chris didn’t start out as a full-time photographer — and still wears a few different hats. Alongside his photography, he works as an IBEW Local 58 broadcast and telecommunications technician, supporting live productions for major networks like CBS, NBC, and Fox Sports. That technical background gives him an edge when it comes to timing, gear, and understanding how to work seamlessly in high-pressure environments. It’s a big part of what makes him so versatile — equally comfortable covering massive public events like the NFL Draft or The Grand Prix as he is capturing the quiet stillness of the Detroit River at sunrise. His work has been featured in public art installations, gallery exhibits, major media outlets, and civic campaigns. He’s been recognized as one of Detroit’s top drone and event photographers, and has served as the official photographer for city events, tourism boards, and historical restoration projects — including the ongoing documentation of Aretha Franklin’s Rose Estate. Outside of his professional work, Chris is active in the creative community. He’s helped start artist spaces, volunteers his time for nonprofit and union-based storytelling, and runs a photography business with his wife, Bethany. Together, they offer a warm, collaborative experience for couples, families, brands, and organizations across Michigan.
