Production for my next Lowrider film kicked off yesterday in Chimayo, New Mexico! 🙏🏽 🎥

Bobby Chacon was born and raised in Chimayo, New Mexico, and has spent decades accumulating what I can only describe as a FLEET of beautiful lowriders. My jaw was dropped the entire time we toured his property. NINE 1959 Impalas… SIX 1958 Impalas… at least a dozen Bombs, other Impalas ranging from 60-64… etc etc. Only 1 of these cars was inherited from his dad. The rest he himself labored for and acquired over the decades. Parts cars. Projects cars. Street cars. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Maybe a total of somewhere around 40 cars on this property and more on other properties. Unbelievable collection!!

As I interviewed Bobby, what struck me was his humble spirit, his devotion to his family, and his connection to the Chimayo community. An added plus was hearing the Acequia de Santa Cruz running through Bobby’s property as we conducted his interview. Lowriders, acequias, and the 200+ year old Santuario del Chimayo?!! WELCOME TO NORTHERN NEW MEXICO!! 😍

Though this will be a Lowrider film at its core, it will also give me the opportunity to highlight the beauty, history, and lifestyle of rural communities in my home state of New Mexico. If you’ve been following my work for some time, you will LOVE this story! It intersects many of the things I love to feature in my films.

We have several more days of production ahead of us but starting is always the hardest part. I will update you as we go!

Have you watched “Española Lowrider Legend Fred Rael” yet? My most recent short film was very well received and is a piece I’m really proud of. Collaborating with Fred Rael was an honor. He’s a good man with an incredible story. Here are my favorite images from our time in production. The short film is LIVE on my YT channel if you haven’t had a chance to watch. Norm Maktima is a fly fishing guide from Pecos, New Mexico. He is of San Felipe, Hopi, and Laguna descent. I’ve admired Norm’s fly fishing resume from afar for many many years. He has successfully fly fished in the competition circuit since he was a teenager and has now moved on to coaching women’s Team USA. I’m excited to announce Norm and I are collaborating on an upcoming short film, and today we completed production day 1 of 3! Norm is a master angler, but his passions extend beyond the river. Running is something he has enjoyed since childhood and our shoot today was about RUNNING. We had a beautiful sunrise and incredible vistas for our shoot. Here are a few images from day 1 of production. Days 2 and 3 will be spent on the water but it was refreshing to spend day 1 running!!

Fred Rael is a bonafide legend in the Lowrider world. His cars have been featured in numerous magazines and have won awards at car shows all throughout the southwest. Fred’s humility, kind personality, and incredible Lowrider history really drew me to his story. It was a joy to hear his story and I personally believe he is a perfect ambassador for New Mexico lowriders everywhere. My goal was to get this short film to my grandmother on Mothers Day. I fell a few days short but this story became a big project. Five years ago, my mom gave me an idea to create a small tribute video for my Grandma’s 70th birthday, but as I began researching my Grandmothers story and ancestry, I decided to give her a longer tribute. This 16 minute short film was intended to be a private family tribute but my grandmother has given me permission to share it with the world. There is no way to capture 75 years of life in a short film, but what she shares here are the moments that had the greatest impact on her life. Being raised in Dixon, New Mexico, witnessing the murder of her brother, enduring the murder of her first husband, the births of her children, her music ministry, and her work. Yesterday was a beautiful day to cruise Northern New Mexico with Fred Rael and hear more about his Lowrider story. I look forward to introducing you to Fred and his beautiful Lowrider’s (including a secret 10-year project he hasn’t yet revealed).
