Just a fun one of something I’d definitely find my child doing if we found Nessie, Ogopogo, or some other basic sea monster. Based lightly off this picture I did of him with a Komodo dragon like 10 years ago 💚

Today I drew the leader of the bunny jackelope rebellion. It’s a long story.

Catching up on FOX + MOON art prompt I missed last week! I used an old photo I did about a decade ago of my boy and a fox as a base inspiration 🧡 It’s been fun “reverting” things to hand drawn… which also feels ironic because back in the day I spent DAYS doing these composites in photoshop (pre-AI) precisely because I figured I wouldn’t be able to draw the stuff in my head. Ends up I just never tried lol.

So anyway here’s my submission to last week’s 💚

For today’s version of “I can’t wait for FROM to be back”… I present this gem of a scene. Pointless if you haven’t seen the show, but for me, this scene was so heavy and beautiful and sad. Victor Kavanaugh’s actor Scott McCord nails this role!

Hey all. I haven’t posted here in a long time, and my work has changed a lot.

I started out as a family, child, and newborn photographer. Later, after adopting my son and needing to be home more, I shifted into teaching editing courses and creating composite artwork. That’s mostly where this account began. This was pre-AI, when I’d spend weeks on a single image, drawing every shadow, every strand of fur. Kids riding lions, fighting dragons, all the things you couldn’t just generate instantly back then.

Now that kind of work can be done in a few clicks, and for me, the magic disappeared. So I backed away almost completely.

Life changed. I moved. Years passed. Everything shifted. I didn’t stop making art, it just stopped looking like what it used to, and I’m okay with that.

These days I mostly draw. Still digital, usually on my iPad, and I’ve really picked it back up over the last few months. I started selling some of it on Etsy a year or two ago. Nothing big. Enough to maybe cover my Apple Pencil. But I was drawing anyway, and it was fun.

The work now feels very different. It’s more folk-art inspired, cryptids, quiet dark stuff, mystery and psychological horror energy. Definitely not babies on doves anymore. A small portion of what I make ends up in my shop for fellow cryptid fans or people who love shows like From, Yellowjackets, or Severance.

Funny timing, because today I noticed someone straight up stole one of my drawings and was selling it on their own products. I honestly laughed. Slightly flattered, slightly annoyed, because groceries still cost money and I did actually make the thing. I reported it for copyright infringement, so it’ll get handled.

But it did make me realize that the last piece I shared here, over a year ago, was that same drawing. So I guess this is me saying I’ll be sharing more again. The work has shifted. It’s darker, weirder, sometimes playful, sometimes not.

If you’re into that, you’ll probably see more soon.

About Rachel Leah Photography

Hello, I am Rachel, the photographer here at Rachel Leah Photography, and I am so glad you found my page! Just so you have a brief view of who’s behind the camera, I have been in business for about seven years now (although have been studying photography and photoshop for almost two decades). Since starting, I have specialized in newborn, children, and family portraiture. I know how fast time goes, and how in the blink of an eye our children go from a newborn, to waving goodbye on their first day of school… or in my case, my son’s first day of middle school! It’s a passion of mine to be able to freeze time just a little bit, and give everyone a beautiful representation of their life every step of the way.

From a technical standpoint, I shoot with a Canon, and use Lightroom and Photoshop as my editing tools. I love both lifestyle photography, capturing the connections within your family, as well as composites and imaginative photos, where a little one’s imaginations and dreams can come to life. It has always been a favorite of mine to do composite artwork, but it has grown the past few years as I’ve navigated the world through a new lens of mothering an incredibly imaginative boy with a very beautiful mind. So while we record the day to day, I also find so much joy in bringing his imagination to life, whether that’s him running with lions, becoming a superhero, swimming in raindrops, or floating off in hot air balloons - we make it happen!

From a personal standpoint, I am a single parent to an amazing child who I’ve adopted from the foster system. He is overflowing with curiosity, excitement, and hunger for life—leaving a bit less time for sessions these days. He is discovering the world in a new way every day and it’s my pleasure and priority to step fully into his world and discover alongside him and support and love him through every phase we pass through. This is part of the reason that I am currently taking less clients. Where I used to be able to fit in four to five sessions a week and stay up until 4:00 a.m. editing nonstop… I now have a very different life. Because of this, I encourage everyone to send session inquiries as early as possible, because I can only take on a few sessions a month. I do this so I can truly pour my whole self into your session and give you my best work possible while maintaining full involvement in my son’s life.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me here on facebook, or at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you and working with your family and children!
