Happy Birthday to our Co-Owner, Founder, Photographer Extraordinaire… and full-time adventurer, John! 🎉📸🏃‍♂️⛷️

Whether he’s training for a half marathon, flying down a ski slope, hiking somewhere off the beaten path, traveling to the next great adventure, relaxing in the Hamptons, or just hanging out with movie stars, John somehow makes every day feel exciting, creative, and full of life.

His energy, talent, and ability to connect with people are a huge part of what makes East 27 Creative what it is today. From behind the camera to behind the scenes, he brings heart, humor, curiosity, and adventure everywhere he goes.

Today we’re celebrating a BIG milestone birthday (definitely more than 21 😉) and sharing some of our favorite moments — past and present — of the man who proves that life only gets better with experience, curiosity, and a little bit of wanderlust.

Today we’re honoring someone who meant so much to us—Barbara Devaney, John’s mom 🤍

Barbara wasn’t just part of our world through family—she truly understood and loved what we do. She had a deep appreciation for art in all forms—collecting it, creating it, and surrounding herself with it. As creatives, we felt that connection with her immediately.

She also had a deep love for both East Hampton and New York City—places that reflected her spirit, her style, and the way she lived her life.

She ALWAYS believed in us at East 27 Creative. She loved that we built a photography business in East Hampton and was always encouraging us to keep going, keep creating, and keep pushing forward.

Barbara had an incredible sense of style, a sharp eye, and a presence that filled a room. She was curious, thoughtful, and deeply engaged in the world around her—always asking questions, always interested, always seeing.

One of our favorite memories is photographing her in Italy in October 2024 at age 92. She was determined to see every floor of her family’s three-story home. Step by step, we made our way up together—taking breaks when needed, but never once considering turning back. When we reached the top and stepped out onto the balcony, she lit up—taking it all in, waving, completely present in the moment. That was Barbara—fiercely self-reliant, determined, and full of life.

She reminded us what it means to live creatively—not just in your work, but in how you see the world.

We will miss her deeply.

Fun fact: he’s been making this East Hampton ↔ NYC trek for over 40 years.

You came to East Hampton and accidentally ended up in the Arctic. ❄️😂
Maidstone Beach is frozen over and absolutely unreal today — the perfect day for winter photography.
John says he hasn’t seen it like this since he was a kid — and honestly, this feels like one of those “you’ll remember it forever” winter days. 🧊✨

One of our favorite clients is Nordic Knot! Not only did they make great use of all the fantastic photos we've done together, but their pretzels, croissants and other amazing foods are out of this world!

I had 30 pretzels at my daughters 16th birthday party and they were gone within an hour! Get your orders in today!

🎉 Birthday Month: ACTIVATED. 🎉

Last weekend was the perfect kickoff to February — yacht rock, the Thurston Howell Band, and nothing but smooth sax-filled magic in the air. 🎷✨

Celebrating with John, Mel, and Susanne made it even better… because honestly, what’s better than great friends, great music, and that “life is GOOD” energy?

And the fun doesn’t stop there…
