Extraordinary Shelf Cloud With Gust Front Over Frederick, Maryland - July 23, 2022

As the temperature climbed to 97 degrees in the Frederick, Maryland area on Saturday July 23rd, 2022, a severe thunderstorm complex formed in West Virginia and proceeded eastward into Maryland. As it ran into the Catoctin Mountains and weakened around 7:30pm, an incredible shelf cloud formed with a decent gust front/outflow boundary and some rain with a beautiful pink sunset.

Severe Thunderstorm/Prolonged Deadly Lightning Sequence; Easton, Maryland - July 17th, 2024

It has been a long and very hot summer in Maryland indeed. After weeks of brutal heat and heat indices reaching 110 degrees and higher, the heatwave finally broke in Easton, Maryland, around 8:30pm on Wednesday July 17, 2024. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service for Talbot County, as a line of storms with dangerous prolonged lightning crossed over Easton. As the storms progressed east toward Federalsburg, Seaford, and the Delaware Beaches, more warnings were issued, and the lightning was prolific even up to 40 miles away. This was the first measurable rain in Easton since the beginning of June.

Video of a massive severe thunderstorm rolling through the Appalachian mountains into Frederick, Maryland and east towards Baltimore in the early evening of Saturday July 17th, 2021. A very fast moving shelf cloud turns into a short lived torrential rain event that makes the mountains west of Frederick completely disappear for sometime. Frequent lightning and thunder occur along with heavy wind gusts.

After a record breaking hot July 4th weekend, a change in the weather pattern brought somewhat cooler but very humid conditions to the Delmarva peninsula and Maryland's eastern shore. With dew points in the mid 70s, a line of thunderstorms crossed over Easton, Maryland in the early evening of Thursday July 9th, 2026. Although severe criteria was not met, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued at 6:55pm for Easton and Talbot County as heavy rain with abundant lightning and thunder moved through the area.

As the temperature hit 95 degrees, with a dew point approaching 80, Easton and Talbot County, Maryland were simultaneously under a heat advisory, flood watch, and a severe thunderstorm watch in the late afternoon and evening on Tuesday July 8th, 2025. As a line of strong to severe thunderstorms developed over the Appalachian Mountains and proceeded east across the Chesapeake Bay, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued around 7pm when a thunderstorm with torrential rainfall and copious lightning rolled across the Delmarva Peninsula.

Severe Thunderstorm/Incredible Clouds, Lightning, and Torrential Rain; Greensboro, Maryland - 7/2/23

Video of a severe thunderstorm with breathtaking clouds, torrential rain, and lightning passing over Greensboro, Maryland during sunset on Sunday July 2nd, 2023. A small line of storms formed between Baltimore and Annapolis, and drifted east across the Chesapeake Bay into the eastern shore with an amazing view of dark, ominous clouds, torrential rain and wind. As the storms continued east toward the Delaware beaches, prolific lightning was occurring to the east. After the storm cleared out, the stars became visible for the first time in a few nights.
