Hope you all had a wonderful 250yr celebration.

Here is a patriotic Black-capped chickadee.
He is celebrating 250yrs his first year of life as a new fledgling this year.

New chicks are fully feathered when they leave the nest. They will disperse into nearby foliage, and spend time learning to flap, catch food etc. During this time parents stay close, & feed them caterpillars and spiders. Although this one is quickly becoming a regular at the feeder.

The other photo is fireworks, lightning, American flag bridge, and local community goers having a great time.

Hopefully your having a great weekend
Keep having fun.

Brown Thrasher.

Would you take a look at those bright yellow eyes.

One of my favorite local brown summer birds.

They arrive in WI April-May, & depart Sept- Oct.
However sometimes in mild winters they might be found snacking on berries in the southern part of the state in winter.

They build their nest in May and lay eggs in June.

The female and male both incubate the eggs for 11-12 days.

9 days for feathers to grow, and 11-12 days in nest after that.

Once out of the nest the parents keep watch young for the first month.

And the following spring the Juveniles are ready to start this whole process for themselves.

They can be found all across WI during the summer.

The Brown Thrashers spend most of their time on the ground chasing insects. You will very likely see them kicking around leaf litter or thrashing.

Have you been seeing the Brown Thrashers?

Keep having fun.
