Check out what I've been hard at work on! π₯°
π₯ To mark The Donβt You Want Me Project, in partnership with Wild at Heart Foundation, are proud to formally announce our initiative - The Don't You Want Me Rescue Grant - to enable someone from each of the q***r and trans communities in Toronto and the U.K, who are struggling with mental health issues, the opportunity to adopt a rescue dog. As witnessed throughout the DYWM project we anticipate that the arrival of the rescue dog will have a profoundly transformative impact not only on the recipient's mental health but on every aspect of their life.
Many people in the q***r and trans community are unable to afford the costs associated with dog ownership. To that end, the Grant aims to remove that financial burden whilst also providing ongoing mental health support to the grant recipient as they welcome a dog into their lives. Q***r and trans people may also experience intersecting forms of discrimination β such as racism, sexism or poverty alongside homophobia or transphobia that negatively impact their mental health. Approximately half of the DYWM participants have said that their rescue dog saved their life.
We look forward to sharing more information about this powerful initiative over the coming months and if you are able to support and help us document and roll this out more widely across the two countries, please donate via the link in our bio.
π₯° Huge thanks to our growing network of amazing Grant sponsors including Doggy Dates Toronto, Friends of Ruby, Save Our Scruff, NOOD Pet Food, Balmy Beach Pet Hospital, Small Wonders Pets, Dogtopia, Waggel, and Butternut Box - youβll be hearing more about their involvement soon.
