A grueling, beautiful hour of absolute intensity.

Last night marked another first for me behind the lens: capturing a Black Belt test at Elite Tae Kwon Do in Monroe, Wisconsin.

I managed to sneak in early to catch the quiet before the storm, documenting the two candidates warming up and mentally preparing in the basement. The contrast between that silent, focused preparation and the explosive, hour-long test that followed was incredible to witness. This wasn’t just a physical challenge; it was a complete mental and emotional gauntlet. From precision weapon forms and gravity-defying jumps to shattering boards, these two left absolutely everything on the mat.

A massive congratulations to Monroe’s newest black belts. You earned every single thread of them last night. But as their Master reminded everyone at the end of the night…the belt isn’t a destination. It’s simply the indicator that you are ready for the next stage of an ongoing journey with no real end. 🥋🔥👊📸

I’ve always wondered why we don’t see more iconic, heavy-hitting Wisconsin brand collaborations. Well, it looks like that is about to change...

After grinding through a non-stop, three-day championship track shoot, I finally let the heavy professional rigs take a well-deserved break. For today’s family outing, I went full “dad camera” mode, packing nothing but a little pocket rocket to snap the day.

We rolled up to the Muskellounge in Madison and ran right into the Duluth Trading Co. “Bigger Dam Van” teasing a brand-new, unreleased collaboration collection with Old Milwaukee.

It didn’t hurt that the Muskellounge completely nailed the backdrop, either. It’s an epic, high-vibe spot that effortlessly balances premium tavern culture with a layout that’s real fun for the kids, too.

Old Milwaukee x Duluth Trading Co. Keep your eyes peeled for this one. 🍻🧢🚐💥

Championship Saturday at the 2026 NCAA Division III Track and Field Outdoor Championships was an absolute gauntlet. While our call time gave us a welcome extra hour of sleep, it was a non-stop hustle from the very first field event final until the last team trophies were presented at 6 PM. What made this marathon weekend seamless was operating alongside an incredible three-man photography crew. We pivoted, anticipated, and split duties like a veteran team that had worked together for years. We walked onto the complex on day one as total strangers and walked away on day three as close friends and dream-team colleagues.

The final day threw absolutely everything at us both on the track and from the sky. We covered the full spectrum of emotional highs and physical limits, shooting field event finals, handoffs, and photo-finish sprints. Meanwhile, the Wisconsin weather kept us on our toes, shifting rapidly from heavy overcast to blinding sun, followed by a sudden downpour and winds strong enough to blow our hats across the infield. Every single photographer on the turf ran their own version of a sprint this weekend, fighting through the physical fatigue to match the elite energy of the athletes.

In the end, the storybook finish took care of itself on the track. The host team of UW-La Crosse delivered an unforgettable performance in front of their home crowd, coming up massive to sweep the national team trophies for both the men’s and women’s titles. Watching that raw, hometown celebration cap off a grueling three-day assignment made every single step worth it. One final set to lock in a legendary championship weekend. 🏆🏃‍♂️⛈️📸

Day 2 of the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in La Crosse is officially in the books, and it was an absolute marathon. Spent the bulk of the day locked in on the decathlon guys, tracking the sheer grit it takes to survive the multi-event grind. The pace was so relentless that I actually managed a minor miracle: an early lunch at 2 PM instead of my usual 4 PM starvation window. 😮‍💨😜

Aside from tracking the leaderboard, today was all about “harvesting” those killer in-between frames. The split-second moments of raw exhaustion, the heavy emotion, and the quiet reset between attempts are where the real stories live.

It has also been a massive privilege to share the trenches as part of a three-man media team this weekend. Two days down, one to go. Finals Saturday is going to be completely jam-packed. Time to rest the feet and get ready for the chaos. 📸🏃‍♂️⚡

Up at 4:30 AM, out the door by 4:50 AM, and finally sitting down to look at the glass at 11:26 PM. Day 1 of the NCAA DIII Track and Field Championships in La Crosse was a beautiful, non-stop grind.

Sprinting between events meant meeting a ton of awesome people and chasing an incredibly fast pace all day. Shooting for clients always requires banking the “safe” shots first, which is a necessary balancing act. To keep my creative sanity, I went rogue in between the official sets to focus on motion, tight details, and the raw energy of the track.

These frames are a few of my absolute favorite personal captures from the opening rounds. Time to get a few hours of sleep and do it all over again tomorrow. 🏃‍♂️💨📸

New Glarus has its first hometown World Euchre Championship winners.

Local residents Gif Hoesly and Larry Hauge made history on Sunday afternoon, completing an incredible run under the tournament tents in downtown New Glarus to win the 2026 World Euchre Championship sponsored by Bicycle Cards. They became the first hometown players to ever claim the title in tournament history.

Day 2 brought steady rain, but it did nothing to dampen the energy for the doubles championship. While the entire weekend event drew a massive field of over 600 total card players spanning both the singles and doubles divisions, Sunday’s bracket featured a heavily cut-down field from Saturday’s qualifiers, bringing out about half the original crowd to fight for the title.

Day 1 of the 2026 World Euchre Championship kicked off in beautiful New Glarus, Wisconsin, under absolutely perfect weather. This year featured a venue change, moving the fundraiser into a massive outdoor tent that allowed for way more space, rumored to be 25 feet longer than the town’s famous Oktoberfest setup. It proved to be the ideal backdrop for a massive, fun get-together centered around a great cause.

Inside, the scale of the community turnout was clear. A manual count revealed 105 active tables running simultaneously under the tent. Players traveled from all across the United States and Canada, bringing an incredible mix of energy, custom outfits, and casual camaraderie that elevates this event in every way.

Day 1 set a fantastic benchmark for community spirit and pure fun. We are back at it tomorrow morning for Day 2 to wrap things up and officially crown the champions. Time to prep the cards for the final rounds. 💪🫡🤌📸

It was a perfect night for baseball in Monroe. A little wind and plenty of energy at the park made for some great shots and even more giggles from the kids running around. The highlight of the night was definitely the heat at the plate. After looking at the frames, I actually think the runner was safe, but the call on the field went the Monroe way.

I ended up leaving about half an inning early once the kids got hungry, so I honestly have no idea what the final score was or who officially took the win. Monroe was leading by one when we packed up, so that close call at home might have been the deciding factor if they held on. Either way, the light was perfect and it was a blast to shoot. ⚾️📸💪🤌

The final game of Day 3 in Minnesota was our best showing of the tournament. While we came up short on the scoreboard again, I’ve started looking at these games through the same lens as my photography. In this craft, you don’t “win” every single day with a perfect shot, but if you come home with work you’re proud of, you’ve accomplished something. These kids did exactly that.

The improvement from Friday’s first puck drop to Sunday’s final whistle was immense. Watching this group navigate their first full-ice tournament was a crash course in the speed and spacing of the game. But the most rewarding part of the day happened on the bench. The coaches handed out game pucks after the final whistle, and while Huckleberry Win definitely wanted one, he wasn’t bummed when he didn’t get it. Instead, he was genuinely excited for his new teammates, recognizing how their performance yielded those results.

Seeing him have a blast while being stoked for his friends is a bigger win than anything on a scoreboard. Technical growth can be taught, but that kind of character is built in the grind.

To top off the weekend, the tournament held a special tribute for Mother’s Day. Seeing the players offer up a stick tribute on the ice, followed by each athlete presenting a rose to their mom after the game, was the perfect way to ground the experience. A six-hour road trip on Mother’s Day isn’t exactly a spa day, but seeing the appreciation from the kids made the trek worth it.
