The photographs in my Kickstarter project, The Color of Water, reveal the ability of water to reinterpret the natural world, showing waterscapes in constant motion, alive with shifting currents of color and texture.

Each reflection tells its own story, shaped by angle of view, season, shutter speed, and the dance of light across the surface.

These images blur the boundary between photography and abstraction, offering glimpses into a world that exists for only a heartbeat before it changes again.

Enjoy this selection from the more than 100 photographs that I hope to feature in The Color of Water—but only if we reach our Kickstarter fundraising goal.

Will you help to bring this project to life? It’s been my dream to share these, my best photos of water from my 35-year career.

Please see this Kickstarter project and become a backer to get rewards like the book, the e-book edition, a variety of photo prints, and more.

Friends, you’ve been hearing from me about my career-long dream, The Color of Water. If the Kickstarter campaign is successful, this fine art photography book explores the best photos of water and its reflections of nature from the span of my entire 35-year career taking pictures. This book will share the artistic and technical considerations that can help you advance your creative visualization and take your own best photos of water’s hidden hues.

The Kickstarter campaign is off to a good start, and I wanted to share some of the rewards we are offering to backers as thanks for supporting this project. We have 8 rewards tiers at a variety of price points:

* Of course, they all include a print or e-book edition of The Color of Water! This book will be truly special: It’s a 10”x10” paperback with 4” flaps, a full-color interior with spot gloss on photographs to enrich the colors, a premium sewn binding, at least 100 photos and up to 10,000 words on how I crafted each photo in camera and in the digital darkroom.
* Signed copies
* E-book only editions for those in countries to which we’re unable to ship books
* 8x10, 11x14, 12x18 photo prints on fine art photo paper
* 24x36 metal print
* Private photo critique with Tony Sweet
* Photography seminar for you or your group
* Ways to be included in the acknowledgements section of the book

The Color of Water is a project I’ve dreamed up for decades. It’s a capstone of my career and shares my personal obsession with water’s ability to reflect nature and reveal hidden hues.

This project will only come to life with your support. Will you consider it? See the project and backer rewards: https://tonysweet.com/books/the-color-of-water/

Friends, I’m delighted to share more from The Color of Water! These images show the interior page designs that we are hoping to share in the book if our new Kickstarter campaign is successful.

On my website, I share more about this project, which I view as a capstone of my 35-year career—and the second most important project of my career (behind the many workshops I’ve run with Susan Milestone and so many of you).

Have you seen the gallery from The Color of Water? They include surreal landscapes, details of water flowing around rocks, an astounding range of colors from the White Mountains, Charleston, the Great Smokies, the Badlands, and so many of the locations I’ve photographed over my career.

I invite you to slow down and take in the photos. If you like what you see, would you please become a supporter on Kickstarter? I would love to mail you a book, a photo print, or work with you or your club if this project is successful. It will only come to life with your support.

Friends, family, fellow photographers! I’d like to announce an exciting new project, a capstone of my career: The Color of Water.

The Color of Water: The Artistry of Light, Reflection, and Hidden Hues will gather my finest photographs of water into a 10" x 10" premium coffee table book, printed with painstaking attention to color and detail including at least 100 photographs and up to 10,000 words sharing the artistic and technical aspects of each photo. The Color of Water will show how to build your own creative visualizations of water and its surroundings, sharing my camera settings and post-processing notes to reveal the influences on the character and emotional impact of each scene.

I’m delighted to share a sample gallery of photos that will be in The Color of Water on my website—plus praise for the project from my long-time colleagues like Deb Standidge, Rick Sammon, Ellen Anon and many others who have explored the first drafts.

Would you take a moment to see what’s there for you? I hope you’ll find it as beautiful as I do, and I hope you will become a Kickstarter backer so that we can make this dream come true.

Here are a couple of images from the few hours at Longwood, The flowers are on the wane, but to the fair, I understand that they will be replacing the more beat up flowers with fresh ones for this weekend, when crowds are anticipated. Anyone concerned about going should go. New blue poppies may be brought out for the weekend and the normal flowers are great with lots of rich colors, including rich greens, which are great for infrared. I really didn't shoot that much today, but enjoyed visiting with friends.

Have a great weekend.

A blast from the past. Image made while filming our Charleston DVD "a few" years ago. We were lucky to get and freeze this wave as soft light was touching the tree, just before it knocked me over. Fun morning.

Note: When trees are in salt water, they are dead wood, and through a series of weather events, lose the detail of their twigs, then the limbs begin to truncate. Also, as the trees are loosening the sand, there begins to be movement during long exposures, resulting in the need for shorter exposures (seconds rather than minutes). Then the tree finally falls and becomes a snag on the beach.

However, we have an excursion to a barrier island for a sunrise session on our Charleston workshop, April 5-10, along with other marvelous spring venues in historic Charleston.

Pls contact [email protected] for more info!

Thanks,

Fall rapids reflections
Swift River, NH

Rather than maximizing color, I made many images concentrating on the unusually active white back wash, composing, and bracketing, to intersperse color throughout the scene.

Fall in NH workshop, Oct. 4-8. Pls email [email protected] for more info.

Have a great weekend!
