Some days we serve others before ourselves.

A friend who runs Elevate Ohana, a homeschool co-op, asked me to photograph the kids at their entrepreneur fair. One kid walked in, looked at his photos on the laptop, and told me one was slightly out of focus. HE WAS RIGHT. We shot it again.

Eleven kids. Real businesses. Real professional photos.

I wanted to share this for people who have been burned by product photos that looked fine but didn't do the job. I have seen way too many photos on legitimate websites that have dust or crinkled packaging that could have been fixed. And these are well known brands too.

The hands in this photo are my son and daughter.

We spent the day at Mr. Brown’s Brisket Society pop-up. A family-run business, brisket smoked low and slow, and a line of people who showed up because the food is that good. I brought my camera along because this is the kind of work we love documenting. Real small businesses built by people who took a risk and put their name on something. The kind of places that make a community feel like a community.

When small businesses thrive, the community thrives. That’s why we keep showing up.

(And yes, Dusty Baker stopped by. The food is that good.)

A few weeks ago we attended the 20th Annual Taste of Elk Grove to document Lilyz African Cuisine. Before the night was over, the event coordinator asked us to cover the broader event.

That kind of shift doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from being prepared, aware, and ready to step in when it matters.
