🍯 EDITING LIST UPDATE! 📸
Happy Labor Day weekend, Honey Babes family! 💛 I wanted to pop in with a little editing update and let everyone know where things are at behind the scenes.

I am finishing A.S.’s gallery today! 🎉

This week is going to be a little hectic with doctor appointments, back-to-school fun, and all the things that come with this time of year, but in between all of that, I’ll be working hard to complete A.L.’s gallery and C.H.’s gallery. 🖥️📷

I also have several people I need to follow up with, so if you’re waiting on an email from me, keep an eye on your inbox this week! I’ll be checking in and making sure everyone knows where things stand with their session.

On the health side of things, I’m steadily improving. 💕 I’m still moving a little slower than my normal pace and my stamina is definitely not where it used to be, but I’m working on rebuilding that little by little. I still have my trusty wound vac along for the ride, and I’ve been told I’ll likely be keeping it for another couple of weeks. (Apparently this thing has decided it lives here now. 😂)

I truly cannot thank you all enough for your patience, kindness, and understanding through this season of recovery. It has been a wonderful—and delightfully busy—August, and I am so grateful for every single family who trusted me with their memories. 🥹💛

Thank you for sticking with me while I heal, catch up, and get those beautiful galleries into your hands. I appreciate you more than you know.

Now, back to editing I go! ☕️💻📸

Happy Labor Day, everyone! 🇺🇸

📸 RAW vs. JPEG: Why Your Photographer Gives You One… and Usually Keeps the Other

Let’s talk about something that comes up every now and then in photography:

“Can I have the RAW files?”

Short answer: Usually, no.
Long answer: Grab a snack. 😂

First, let’s talk about what these files actually are.

📷 A RAW file is basically the ingredients.
It’s the untouched information straight out of the camera. It’s flat, unprocessed, often weird-looking, and contains all of the information your camera captured so that the photographer can turn it into the final image.

🖼️ A JPEG is the finished photograph.
It’s the image after I have selected the best photographs, corrected color and exposure, edited distractions, adjusted skin tones, and applied my artistic style.

And that distinction is really important.

When you book a session with Honey Babes Photography, you’re not paying me to simply press a button on a camera and hand you whatever it spits out.

You’re paying for the finished artwork.

There is a LOT that happens between “CLICK!” and the image you see in your gallery.

I can spend hours going through your session, choosing the strongest images, culling duplicates and blinkers, correcting exposure, fixing colors, and editing each final photograph.

And here’s something people don’t always realize:

Your camera does not see the world exactly the way your eyes do.

It can pick up strange reds, oranges, blues, and greens in skin that you may not even notice in person. Certain lighting can make skin look red, yellow, green, gray, or just plain… 🫠 why do I look like that?!

That’s where editing comes in.

I correct those tones so your skin looks natural and true to life.

I also do gentle skin retouching. Not to turn you into a completely different person, but to remove temporary blemishes and distractions. Because unfortunately, my camera has absolutely NO respect for personal boundaries. 😂

The lens sees EVERYTHING.

Every pore.
Every wrinkle.
Every tiny blemish.
Every stray hair.
Every little thing you probably weren’t thinking about when you smiled for the camera.

And yes, if there’s something you specifically want left alone, I’m always happy to accommodate that. ❤️

But generally, I want you to look like you on your very best day, not like you’ve been run through a plastic filter.

That’s part of my job.

And that’s also why I don’t typically provide RAW files.

Think of it this way:

You wouldn’t go to a restaurant, order a beautiful meal, and then ask the chef to hand you the raw chicken, uncooked vegetables, flour, and spices too. 😂

The chef’s job is to take those ingredients and create the finished meal.

My camera gives me the ingredients.

I create the finished photograph.

The RAW file is an unfinished working file. It’s not representative of my final work, my editing style, or the experience you’re investing in when you book with me.

There are also practical reasons photographers generally don’t release RAW files, including maintaining consistency in our finished work and protecting the integrity of the artwork we create.

You are paying for the finished photograph—not the digital equivalent of me handing you a bowl of flour and saying, “Good luck.” 😂

Photography is art.

And while the camera captures the image, the artistry doesn’t stop when the shutter closes.

The selecting, color correction, retouching, composition choices, editing, and finishing are all part of that art.

So when you receive your beautiful JPEG gallery from Honey Babes Photography, you’re receiving the finished product I’ve poured my time, experience, creativity, and heart into creating for you. 🍯🐝📸

And honestly?

I’d much rather hand you the cake than the eggs, flour, and mixing bowl. 😉

A little photographer perspective on the conversations happening right now about children’s images, AI, and privacy.
I’ve seen a LOT of conversation lately within the photography community about photographers choosing to stop publicly sharing images of babies and children because of the very real and disturbing ways AI can be misused.
And honestly? I hate that this is even something we have to think about.
The fact that there are people who take completely innocent photographs of children—or really, ANYONE—and use technology to create disgusting, exploitative content is horrifying. There is absolutely nothing okay about it.
And yes, I understand the desire to protect children from it. I understand why some photographers have decided they no longer feel comfortable sharing children’s images publicly. I respect that decision completely.
But here is where I personally stand:
I will continue sharing the beautiful babies, children, families, seniors, and people I photograph unless my client asks me not to.
For my regular paid sessions, privacy is always an option. I do not require my clients to sign away their right to privacy just so I can have something to post on Facebook or Instagram.
If you tell me, “Please don’t share our images,” that is the end of the conversation. I don’t need an explanation. I don’t need to convince you otherwise. I will simply respect your wishes.
And I have plenty of clients who DO want me to share their images. Some are excited to see their sneak peek. Some immediately share them with their friends and family. Some love seeing their beautiful little babies displayed on my page. And some prefer complete privacy.
Both are okay.
Your child. Your choice. ❤️
The only exception is model calls. When I put out a model call, I am very clear that those sessions are specifically intended to create advertising and portfolio content for Honey Babes Photography. Because of that, a model release is required. I want everyone participating to understand exactly what they’re agreeing to before they book.
But a regular paid client? No. You are never required to let me use your images for marketing.
I will continue sharing my work unless you ask me not to—and I have many families who have asked for privacy over the years, and I have always honored that.
And honestly, after almost six years of doing this, my portfolio is pretty dang full. 😂 I am not worried about running out of beautiful photographs to show people what I do.
Do I enjoy sharing new work?
Absolutely.
I get ridiculously excited about my clients’ galleries. I love showing off their babies. I love seeing parents excited about their sneak peeks. I love when someone sees an image I’ve posted and says, “I need you to photograph my family!”
Updated work matters. It lets potential clients see what I’m creating NOW—not just what I photographed three or four years ago.
But none of that is more important than the comfort and trust of the families who allow me into some of their most meaningful moments.
And then there is the AI conversation…
I keep seeing people talking about a “new law” regarding photographers sharing children’s images. I will be completely honest: I am not going to pretend I know exactly what law everyone is referring to, or confidently repeat information I haven’t personally verified.
There is already a LOT of fear and misinformation circulating online, and I think we need to be careful about adding to that.
What I DO know is that the misuse of AI to create sexual or exploitative content involving children is horrific and should be taken incredibly seriously.
But I also find myself asking:
How do we actually combat this?
Because telling photographers, parents, artists, and everyday people, “Just stop posting pictures of your children” doesn’t actually solve the underlying problem.
These people can steal images from social media. They can use photographs from news articles, websites, old archives, school pages, public records, and countless other places. Technology can pull faces from places we may not even realize are accessible.
The problem isn’t innocent photographs of children.
The problem is the people intentionally abusing technology to exploit them—and the technology and systems that allow that abuse to happen.
So yes, let’s protect children.
Let’s create and enforce laws that specifically target the creation, possession, distribution, and misuse of AI-generated sexual content involving minors.
Let’s hold the people creating and distributing that material accountable.
Let’s require technology companies to build stronger safeguards into these systems from the beginning.
Let’s give parents better information and meaningful choices.
And let’s stop making parents and photographers feel like they’re somehow responsible for what a criminal chooses to do with technology.
I don’t have all the answers. I don’t think any of us do.
But I do know this:
I will continue creating beautiful, innocent photographs of childhood.
I will continue celebrating babies with chubby cheeks, messy cake smashes, missing teeth, wild toddler hair, goofy smiles, sibling hugs, and all of the little moments that make childhood so beautiful.
And I will continue giving every family the choice of whether those memories stay private or whether they’re shared.
If you want me to share your images, I’ll proudly show them off.
If you want privacy, I’ll protect it.
There doesn’t have to be one answer for everyone.
Your memories.
Your child.
Your choice.

You guys!!! 🥹🦁💛 I had to share the absolutely beautiful job Kay over at A&K Confections did on Zach’s birthday cake!

When I ordered it, Zach was completely obsessed with The Lion King, so naturally that became the theme—and WOW. Kay went above and beyond what I ever could have imagined! 🥰

Full disclosure: I did smudge it a tiny bit during transport because apparently I cannot be trusted with precious cargo. 😂 But it is still absolutely gorgeous, and we cannot WAIT to dig in! ❤️🎂

I recommend these ladies to my cake smash clients all the time, and there’s a reason for it! They are incredibly talented and make the most beautiful, delicious treats. And they don’t just do cakes either—they make macarons and all kinds of other delicious desserts, too!

If you have a birthday, celebration, special occasion, or honestly just need an excuse for cake (which I fully support 😂), go give A&K Confections a shout!

Thank you again, Kay, for making Zach’s 8th birthday cake so incredibly special! We absolutely love it! ❤️🦁🎂

🎂💙 Happy 8th Birthday to my sweet Zachary. 💙🎂

Eight.

How did we get here already? My sweet little baby is officially a BIG boy, and while my heart would happily freeze time and keep those tiny toddler days forever, I am so incredibly proud of the amazing little person you are becoming.

You are growing so tall, and your personality shines a little brighter every single day. You are smart. You are strong. You are determined. And you have taught me more about what true strength looks like than anyone ever could.

Life doesn't always come as easily for you as it does for others. Autism has made some things take a little longer, and sometimes your path looks different than everyone else's. But you have never let that stop you. You don't give up. If you want something badly enough, you will find a way to make it happen. Maybe it takes you a little longer. Maybe you find your own way of getting there. But eventually, you get there. And watching you figure things out in your own time has been one of the greatest lessons of my life.

You're talking more and more, and hearing your little voice grow and develop is something I will never take for granted. And let me tell you something I hope you always know: just because you can't always communicate everything you want to say doesn't mean you don't understand. You understand SO much. You remember EVERYTHING. Your mind is incredible, and I am constantly amazed by the things you know and remember.

Right now, your world revolves around all things Lightning McQueen, tractors (especially John Deere 💚💛), construction vehicles, puzzles, books, your scooter, riding the 4-wheeler, and trips to the park. You love to run. You love swimming and anything involving water. You love adventures. You love anything with an engine—from the fastest vehicle to the slowest tractor.

You also apparently love parkour, which your mother absolutely does NOT love watching you attempt. 😂🤦‍♀️

And somehow, the boy who makes me nervous climbing on everything also LOVES the scariest rides at the fair. Clearly, you did not inherit my sense of caution. 😂

You are silly. You are spunky. You are curious. You are adventurous. And you have the best laugh in the entire world. That laugh can change the whole atmosphere of a room and make everything feel a little lighter.

You are my entire world. My reason for getting up every morning. My biggest adventure. My greatest teacher. My muse.

And you are the reason I fell so deeply in love with photography.

Because I know how quickly these years pass. I know that one day these little hands won't be so little, those legs will be even longer, and the little boy who wants to run everywhere will be a grown man with a life of his own.

So I will keep documenting it all.

Every smile. Every laugh. Every adventure. Every obsession. Every silly phase. Every milestone. Every little piece of you.

Because I want to remember every minute. I want you to have photographs that tell the story of your childhood and remind you just how incredibly loved you have always been.

My sweet Zachary, I hope you always know that there is absolutely nothing in this world you cannot accomplish. You may do things differently. You may take a different road. You may need a little more time.

But you will get there.

And I will be right beside you, cheering you on every step of the way. ❤️

Happy 8th Birthday, my amazing, sweet, spunky little boy.

Keep running. Keep exploring. Keep laughing that beautiful laugh. Keep being unapologetically YOU.

Mama loves you more than words could ever possibly say. 💙

Happy Birthday, Zachary. 🎂💙🏎️🚜🧩📚

✨👑 **A LITTLE SNEAK PEEK OF MISS MIDWEST!** 👑✨

I am so incredibly humbled and honored that Kaelyn, Miss Midwest, chose my little studio to create these images for her as she prepares to compete for Miss Minnesota! 💕👑

These photos will be used for her autograph cards, which makes it even more special knowing these images will be going home with her supporters and becoming a little part of her journey. 🥹

This session was SO much fun! We went from simple and elegant to grand and glamorous, and Kaelyn absolutely brought it all to life. ✨ From the classic white backdrop to the full-on crown, sash and gown moment… we got a little bit of everything!

It’s moments like this that remind me just how lucky I am to have this little studio and the amazing people who trust me with their memories, milestones, and big dreams. ❤️

Kaelyn, thank you for choosing Honey Babes Photography. I’m truly honored to be a tiny part of your Miss Minnesota journey, and I’m cheering you on all the way! 👑✨

More from this beautiful session coming soon! 📸💕

🚜🎉 AUSTIN IS THREE! 🎉🚜

Three years of this sweet little guy, and somehow I’ve had the absolute honor of watching him grow up right in front of my lens. 🥹💛

Austin is always such a joy in the studio, and getting to document each stage of his little life over the last few years has been so incredibly special. From those teeny baby days to this big THREE-year-old personality… I just love watching him grow! 🥰

For his birthday session, we had a little fun with construction 🚧👷‍♂️and arm life 🚜🐄 themes—and this handsome guy absolutely rocked both!

Here’s just a tiny peek at what we captured. There are SO many more adorable images to come! 📸✨

Happy 3rd Birthday, Austin! 💛 I’m so lucky I get to keep watching you grow through my lens! 🥰

📣 A LITTLE HONEY BABES UPDATE! 🐝📸
After one VERY eventful and incredibly busy month, I’m taking a couple of days to completely step away and spend some much-needed time with my family. ❤️

Tomorrow & Thursday will be FULLY CLOSED. And I mean actually closed. 😂

🚫 No sessions
🚫 No studio
🚫 No editing
🚫 No emails
🚫 No calls
🚫 No messages

I will be completely unplugged and unavailable for those two days.

Tomorrow, I’ll be spending the day with my family at the fair, and Thursday is extra special because it’s Zach’s BIRTHDAY! 🥳🎂❤️ So I’m taking the day to celebrate my favorite little guy and soak up some family time.

The remainder of this week and through the weekend, I’ll be back at it — editing, answering emails and messages, taking calls, and catching up behind the scenes. 💻📸

I will not be taking sessions over Labor Day weekend, and I won’t be in the studio, but I will be using that time to edit, catch up on galleries, and respond to emails, messages, and inquiries.

This month has been A LOT. 😂 Busy, exciting, exhausting, and honestly a little overwhelming at times. I’m incredibly grateful for every session, every client, every inquiry, and every person who continues to trust me with their memories. ❤️

But even photographers need to occasionally put down the camera, close Lightroom, eat some fair food, and celebrate their babies. 😂🎡🌽🎂

Thank you for your patience and understanding while I take a little time to breathe, recharge, celebrate, and get myself caught back up. I appreciate you all more than you know. 🐝❤️

Regular studio sessions will resume after Labor Day weekend!

💛 A little behind-the-scenes honesty from your photographer… 💛

I feel incredibly, unbelievably blessed by how busy this month has been. Truly. This month has been absolutely INSANE in the best possible way. I have seen so many new faces, welcomed so many amazing clients, and had opportunities that I honestly never could have imagined.

And while I am SO grateful… I am also exhausted. 😂

Like… deeply, completely, running-on-fumes exhausted.

I am still recovering, and I still have a ways to go. I’m moving slower physically, mentally, and honestly, my memory has been absolutely terrible. I’m trying so hard to remember everything, keep track of everyone, stay on top of editing, manage my home, take care of my child, and somehow maintain a life outside of photography. Some days, my brain is just like, “Nope. We’re done here.” 😂

And unfortunately, that has meant I have fallen behind on editing.

I feel terrible about it. I know how exciting it is to wait for your photos. I know you’re checking your inbox wondering when that gallery is coming, and I promise you, I haven’t forgotten you. Your photos matter to me, and I am working HARD to get caught back up and get those final galleries delivered.

I have one more session tomorrow, and then September is going to be considerably quieter. I have a couple of smaller sessions on the books, but nothing remotely like the craziness that has been August. 😂

And that is exactly what I need.

September is going to be my catch-up month. ❤️

I also want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has been patient with me — especially those who have had to reschedule, those who are waiting on galleries, and those who have simply given me grace while I navigate everything going on.

I truly cannot thank you enough.

I also feel incredibly honored and humbled by how many people have shown up for me, helped me through this season, referred people to me, booked sessions with me, and continued to support my little business.

And the number of new faces I’ve had this month has absolutely blown me away.

Including tomorrow’s session… because apparently we’re ending August with MISS MIDWEST. 😳👑

She chose me to photograph her for her autograph photos, and I am still sitting here thinking, “How is this my life?!” 😂 I am absolutely astonished and so incredibly honored.

So please bear with me. ❤️ I am working hard. I promise.

September will give me the breathing room I need to get caught up, finish those galleries, follow up with clients who still need to make image selections, and get a few milestone sessions on the calendar that I know I need to reconnect with.

If you have a session from a previous month and still haven’t selected your images, I will be reaching out to you to check in and see where we’re at.

I also have a few milestone mini clients I need to schedule follow-up sessions with, and I’ll be reaching out to you as well!

And while I’m talking about booking… 👀

🎅 I still have 3 Santa Mini spots available!

🍂 Taylor’s Falls Minis are coming up next month.

🌻 Fall Minis are coming.

📸 And October & November are ALWAYS some of my busiest months of the year.

So if you’ve been thinking about booking, please don’t wait until the last minute. Get ahold of me now and get on my calendar. I do try to keep a few spots available for last-minute bookings, but there aren’t many, and once those fall months fill up, I can’t promise I’ll have another opening.

If you’re expecting a baby, I especially recommend reaching out early if you’re hoping to book a newborn session. And don’t forget that I also offer Bump to Baby sessions for those who want to document the whole journey. 🤍

One more important thing:

🌿 Labor Day weekend is OFFICIALLY OFF. 🌿

I will not be working over the holiday weekend, and I will also be taking September 3rd completely off because it’s my son’s birthday. ❤️ I am going to spend the day with him doing fun birthday things, and I cannot wait.

The day after Labor Day is also back-to-school time for us, so we’ve got a few things going on there too. But after that? I have quite a few openings throughout September if you’ve been waiting for a chance to get on my calendar.

So that’s the update.

I’m tired. I’m behind. I’m overwhelmed.

But I am also SO incredibly grateful.

Grateful that I get to do this.
Grateful for every family who trusts me with their memories.
Grateful for every new client who finds me.
Grateful for every person who has supported me through this difficult year.
Grateful for every person who has been patient while I heal and find my footing again.

And most of all, grateful that Honey Babes Photography is still here. 🐝💛

I love you guys more than you know.

Thank you for sticking with me. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for booking with me and allowing me to keep doing what I love.

Now… let me go edit. 😂💻📸

Bear with me, be kind, and if you’ve been waiting on me — I promise I’m coming for your gallery. ❤️🐝
