"June 2nd
Greetings from Oregon!! Now crossing the
ferry at North Bend. Every day has
been a red letter day on our motor
up north -- with the climax reached
yesteday when we saw the gorgeous
rhododendrens now in full bloom.
they are worth coming the 1000 miles to see
When I read this poetry in garden at
Eureka Inn I thought especially of you -
Hope you are much improved - in fact
"better than ever" - Know you have taken
this trip & know how beautiful the country
is & what a display of luxuriant flowers
of all varieties - Aloha from
Friend Catherine Clearen
Ms White told me you had been ill"

no. 05872 a view of the nw corner of Arcata’s plaza is found on a chrome card mailed to the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution on this day in 1964. visitors Bessie & Wilfred can’t help but notice the early onset of June gloom:

“We had a very wonderful air
plane trip. although we had
to wait in San Francisco a
little over 4 hours.
Gregory graduated last night
with honors, so we were all
very proud of him.
The climate here is cooler
than New England. Mornings
are dull and gray, and the sun
comes out at noon. We can look
at Humboldt Bay from the house
here. Love Bessie & Wilfred”
