Six nights on Cumberland Island.

No electricity.

No stores.

No drinking water.

Everything we need has to be carried in and carried out.

This will be my first true off-grid camping trip, and honestly, I'm a little nervous about it.

One of the biggest questions is power.

Can this little power station keep essential gear running for two people and provide camp lighting for six nights?

The first solar test looked promising.

Now we'll see what happens in the real world.

I've walked a lot of trails in Florida.

But there's something special about a path lined with giant trees draped in Spanish moss.

It never gets old. 🌿✨

While exploring the river, I noticed a small crevice in the limestone.

It would have been easy to overlook.

Curiosity had other plans. 👀

While kayaking the Alapaha River, I noticed something unexpected along the limestone cliffs.

Thin streams and droplets of crystal-clear water slowly seeped down the rock face into the dark river below.

The whole wall seemed to be quietly weeping.

It reminded me of decorative water walls people try to recreate — except this one was built by nature.

And without a doubt, nature did it better. 💧🪨

A quiet paddle along Turkett Creek led me to a tiny spring-fed waterfall hidden among the rocks.

Crystal-clear water flowing into water so dark it looks like liquid obsidian.

Three minutes of natural sounds, flowing water, weathered limestone, and a place I found absolutely fascinating.

Until today, I thought Blackwater Creek in Seminole State Forest was the darkest water I'd ever paddled in Florida.

Then I found Turkett Creek.

The water was so dark it looked less like a creek and more like a river of liquid obsidian flowing through the forest. 🖤🛶

I was completely fascinated by it.

After kayaking just minutes from downtown Sarasota, I made one final stop before heading home.

At first glance, it's just a giant statue.

But there's a fascinating story behind it — one that began nearly 80 years ago and became one of the most recognizable images in history.
