PSA:
By nature, Bo***ir Photography puts your client in a very vulnerable position. They are trusting you as they place themselves in front of you not only with their bodies in lingerie or very little coverage, but also with their self esteem, self worth, and self conscious confidence or lack of.
MOST people don't pay attention and never consider the clothing they put on every day as a type of "armor" ... protection of their innocence, vulnerability, and safety... but when asked to disrobe in front of a complete stranger, their fight or flight instincts begin to kick in. Their adrenaline starts to flow, and nerves are on high alert, constantly on the lookout for danger. Couple this with self depreciating thoughts, past childhood or young adulthood trauma, and if not handled correctly, could detrimentally hurt your client.
If a photographer is not trained or experienced in working with clients in this manner, more harm than good will result. So many photographers out there add bo***ir services to their list of options, but do not have the necessary skills to work with certain clients and this results in ruined self image, discouraged confidence, and a lowered self esteem.
SO PHOTOGRAPHERS! If you think adding bo***ir to your services is a great idea to make a quick buck, but have absolutely no idea how to work with clients in a healthy, careful, manner then please stop offering it because you're only hurting your client's, and the industry. I get so many clients saying they've had a session before and their photographer made them feel horrible about themselves, when all they wanted to do was feel better. And hearingvthat just kills me. It breaks my heart, So please, if you are not experienced or trained to work in this field then dont.
As a potential client looking into having a bo***ir session done, be picky. talk to a potential photographer. look at their work. Talk to past clients and get their experiences with the photographer you're thinking of working with. You cannot always trust the experience they offer by the rates that they charge so talk to them in person. Allow your instincts to guide you to the photographer that is right for you.
I modeled in this industry for years prior to becoming a photographer, and I've been shooting bo***ir for 4 years. I specialize in bo***ir, and I do not shoot anything else. I have a Master's degree in Psychology, and I spent 27 year of my life being abused in every way possible. I know how to treat my clients. I know how to work with clients with past trauma. If you want a bo***ir photographer you can feel safe with, hire me. Message me if you'd like to talk, set up a session, or shoot the breeze. You can see my work, and read some reviews at Tantalize Bo***ir.
