The families who tell me they don't have anything planned for the day are actually describing the perfect session. No agenda means nobody is watching the clock. The kids can do what they actually do. You can move through your morning the way you always do, and I just follow along.

Some of my favorite sessions have started with someone saying "we were just going to make pancakes and maybe go outside." That's it. That's the whole plan. And it turns into an hour of real life that nobody had to perform.

If you want to get better at documenting your own family's everyday life, I have a free guide linked in my bio. And when you're ready to hand the camera off entirely, I'd love to hear from you.

I started this business in the fall of 2020. I had just left a job I loved directing a Jewish organic farming fellowship, and then the world shut down and I was home with a lot of time and energy and nowhere to put it. It turned out to be a gift.

I had always done photography, always loved surfacing the beauty in everyday moments, whether that was traveling, or watching strangers in cafes, or documenting the people I love. I also just like building things. Creating a business is its own kind of creative project, and I've found I'm as drawn to that challenge as I am to the work itself.

I'm based in Falls Village, CT, and travel to photograph families, newborns, elopements, and businesses that want elevated photos to help tell their story. I'm also open to creative portrait inquiries of all kinds. I always love to hear your ideas and we can figure out together if we're a good fit.

If you've been looking for a photographer who won't make you say cheese, I'm here!

Summer is the season people keep saying they want to document, and then it's September and the kids are back in school and the light is different and the moment has passed. How does that happen so quickly??

If you have been thinking about family photos, this is a great time to reach out! A nothing day at home, a gathering with the people you love, a new baby's first weeks, an elopement in a field somewhere. Fall fills up fast for me with school portrait work, so summer is when I have the most flexibility for family sessions. Second half of July and August have room for you- I'd love to photograph your family!

Here are a few images from a family gathering over the holidays. I loved photographing a handful of intergenerational gatherings like this, and reminds me of everything I love about spending time with my own family. What a gift to get to witness yours!

This time of year is slower for family sessions, which gives me space to work on other parts of the business. I’ve been updating my website and SEO, refining offerings for small businesses who want help sharing their story, and planning school portraits for the year ahead (if you’re connected to a school and want a different approach, I’d love an intro! all galleries are private, only accessible to parents).

I’m also building an online communication course. It isn’t photography, but it definitely comes from the same place that my photo approach does: paying attention, being present, staying connected.

While I sometimes forget how special winter is when I’m scraping my car at 7am, that feeling quickly melts back into awe for this beautiful place we live in. I saw maple sap buckets on trees this week, which always feels hopeful- a sign that things will shift, and all that’s been happening beneath the surface in these last couple of months will soon start flowing.

If your school is reconsidering portrait photography this year, I wrote a guide outlining what to look for — from scheduling and communication to style and overall experience.

School portrait day should feel organized, aligned with your community, and seamless for staff and families. You can read the full guide at the link in my bio (look for “School Portrait Guide”).

I’m sending printed guides to a handful of schools this season and have limited openings for 2026 (one this fall and a few in the spring).

If there’s a school community you think might be a strong fit for this approach, I’d love to be connected!

If your school is reconsidering school portraits this year, I put together a guide outlining what to look for in a photographer — from style and consistency to scheduling and communication.

Portrait day should feel organized, calm, and reflective of your school community!

If your school is evaluating school portrait photography options, this guide walks through what matters most — organization, communication, style, and overall experience.

Hi Friends!

I’m looking for two expecting families for a complimentary Fresh 48 newborn photography session. These sessions take place within the first 24–48 hours after birth (in a hospital, birth center, or home birth) and focuses on documentary-style photos (no posing/props).

I’m building out this part of my portfolio and offering two sessions at no cost in exchange for permission to share the images. Birth location needs to be within about a two-hour drive of Northwest CT.

If you’re expecting — or know someone who is — see photos for more info, and i'll put links in comments to apply, and see more of my work (links won't work in the last image- FB wouldn't let me upload this as a PDF with links etc)

Feel free to tag a friend who might want to do this!

I’m a swimmer.

For nine months of the year, I’m in a pool. Goggles on, music in my ears. (Shoutout to , and I’m apparently on month four of )

In the lake, it’s different. No goggles, thank you very much. What if I see one of the lake monsters? When I swim on my back, I see clouds and birds pass overhead. I reach the sunrise light with my fingertips as it slants across the trees on the far shore.

When asked if anyone might want to be photographed underwater at the retreat, I said yes immediately.

Thank you to for making this image before I got to swim around in a dress.

Swimming is one of the things that grounds me. It connects me to my body, to the natural world when I’m in a lake, and to myself.

It’s also uncomfortable for me. I don’t imagine sharks in the pool every time I get in anymore, but I’m not convinced that they’re entirely out of the question.

Have you noticed how sometimes the things that bring us meaning also ask us to sit with discomfort or fear? I’d love to know if/how this resonates with you.

RB
