Developing Skies

Developing Skies Developing Skies is a group of storm chasers who monitor and report severe weather conditions. I will be doing most of the navigation and radar.

Our goals as a team is to better understand storms in the southeast and what makes them different from storms out in the midwest . We do not have a fancy film crew to follow us , we all pitch in with the camera .

So what happened today? All the ingredients were in place, but the storms never reached their potential. There were several factors that came into play. Morning showers and storms left behind cooler air and persistent clouds. This kept temperatures from warming into the 70s and limited the amount of "fuel" for storms to thrive. (See my previous posts about the severe storm outbreak just off shore where the supply of fuel is limitless over the Gulf Stream). Storms off shore through the day also played a roll. Those storms tapped into the available energy essentially stealing it away from storms further west over land. Given the same data and same ingredients, we'd all have made the same forecast again. It's the nature of the beast and I think we're all thankful the forecast didn't pan out.
